Then there is the biased way the paperwork is handled. A trip to the courthouse for necessary documents just sails right through for a white person. A black persons, files are questioned and the applicant is either turned away or told to get another document from somewhere else and come back later. This is all done in the name of protecting democracy from the "illegal voters" boogeyman.

i've never heard a single republican speak out against these racist scams thinly veiled as "voter ID" laws, so i can only assume that every republican, conservative, right winger, and "libertarian" supports these racist disenfranchisement gambits.

I must admit, I've been trolling trumpers telling them that the gubment/deep state is just going to give voter ids to illegals, while making it harder for Republicans to obtain.

i've started many threads about this very issue, many focused on alabama specifically. and they complain that i do not talk about the issues.then they call me an SJW for pointing out that the republican party purposefully stops black people from voting.

*cops at polling stations in heavily black districts (to deter anyone who may have a warrant from voting)

*active voters listed as inactive

*lack of machines in heavily black areas

*broken down machines in heavily black areas

*longer lines in heavily black areas

and the supreme court ruled they don't have to presrve digital voting records.

Here's one progressive who wants to make sure everyone has free and fair access to the voting booth, because such strongly supports my cause- that of the people.

Alabama's voting shenanigans need to be investigated by the Feds, not that we can expect that to happen under this administration.

That's a great graphic, better than any I've seen. I saw that voter turnout was 65% white, 30% black and 2% Latino. The article I read said that black people were responsible for Doug Jones's win, but didn't show how the vote broke down by race.

It did say that black people showed up at the polls partly in response to Roy Moore's comment about strong families;

"I think it was great at a time when families were united, even though we had slavery, they cared for one another," he said. "People were strong in the families. Our families were strong, our country had a direction, and we corrected many of the problems."

expanding on this - here's an example of the devastating effects of voter suppression and low demographic turnout.

This is what happens in 'ruby red' states. places that are thought to be republican bastions of strength are really just places where certain demographics are underrepresented.

all republicans need to do is make elections hard enough and complicated that only half of democratic constituencies show up - and they win by 16-17%. this is why we have 'Ruby red' states. it is because certain constituencies are over represented in election outcomes.

this is why it is important to show up to vote.

But trying to deny American citizens the right to vote and calling Nazis "very fine people" isn't disrespectful to why our heroes fought...

if the vote last night determined alabama's 7 house seats, republicans would have won 6 out of 7 house seats despite losing the vote overall.

The funny thing is that a "conservative" is the vast majority of us.

A "conservative" traditionally isn't opposed to change as long as the proposed change is sensible and serves a purpose.

It's unfortunate that the religious right has bastardized it to just mean "sister fucking retard who loves rich people but will likely never be rich themselves".
