4 wisemen are charged with heresy and are sentenced to life imprisonment. Since they ran out of room in the prisons the guards decide to take them down to the beach and bury them in a straight line up to their necks. the first 3 are facing the same direction and the last one is facing the opposite.

one day during a debate the 4th wiseman gets mad and starts spitting at the other. the guards break up the fight build a small wall between the 4th wiseman and the group, so he can't see them and they cant' see him, but they can all still converse with each other.

One day the guards get fed up with their job and they want out but before they leave they give the wisemen a chance to go free. They say "wisemen we have 4 hats. 2 white and 2 black. we will put one on each of you and if you can correctly guess the color of the had on your head we'll let you free, but if you guess incorrectly we'll kill you on the spot. if you decide not to guess you'll remain in the sand and be watched by different guards. you're not allowed to discuss only guess the color of your hat." They temporarily blindfold the wisemen and place a hat on each of them.

Which wiseman can correctly guess the color of his hat? and how did he figure out the color?

Remember these are wisemen thus they are cowards so they won't guess unless they are absolutely 100% sure of the color of their hat.

i'll post the answer on sunday.

Wiseman #2 can correctly guess his hat color.

he can see that Wiseman #3 has a black hat on and he knows that Wiseman #1 can see not only the color of Wiseman #3's hat but also the color of Wiseman#2's hat .

Wiseman #2 knows that if he and wiseman #3 both had black hats on that Wiseman #1 will see this and thus Exclaim that he (wiseman#1) has a White hat on but since he doesnt that tells Wiseman #2 that his hat must be white...hence wiseman #1's silence.

wiseman #3 can also get out.

wiseman #3 will think along the same lines as wiseman #2. wiseman #3 will know that his hat is the opposite color of wiseman #2's hat. After wiseman #2 calls out the color of his hat, wiseman #3 will know his hat color and then call his color out.
