I have been doing the paper towel method for sometime. i just got a few rockwool cubes i would like to use.

do you use these to actually germinate the seeds or would i use the papertowel method and then move them into the rockwool before the dirt?

thanks in advance-

ur best bet is to keep using the paper towel metod for germinating. YES u can germ in the cube but i always like the pleasure of seeing it sprout.and you can put them in at once.its weird wen u do it in the rockwool cube.

i just put 10 seeds in rockwools 2 days ago and only 6 of 10 are showing roots now, hopefully they will sprout tomorrow. Anyway i will suggest you still use the paper for germination as i already did it and 100% showed a root...

im with everyone else on this subject.

well to be truthful with you i have used the paper towel way forever. i planted an ungerminated seed 2 times straight into growing medium. once nothing sprouted, and second time plant died at a later date for unrelated reasons. but other than that i have stuck with paper towel germination.
i also like to see it germinate before my eyes, as to me it kinda makes me feel like i've got a healthy little one. :P

Today 4 of 10 are sprouted and nice shape, hopefully more will come tomorrow. As for the roots, one already show their roots under the cube :D

Hey Pimp, Nice looking buds in your other thread. These are like rockwool but different. I got them to start seeds for my hydro But I don't see why you could'nt use them for dirt. I left them on when I put them in the hydro, and the roots will grow through them. I don't see why you could'nt start them in these and then just put the whole thing in the soil when it was ready. That way you could put the seed in, in the correct position and if it pops and grows you don't have to handle the young bare seedling and chance hurting it. But I could be wrong, anybody have some input on this? I just have not tried it since I have no reason (or space) to be starting new seeds yet. I have more than enough cuttings from my mothers.(and a great success rate with the cloner) The nice thing is they are split down the middle so when you put the seed in you can open it up to see if it is starting. I was going to post a link for you that I saw a while ago on seed starting on that other site but it is down right now. I'll try to remember to post it when it comes back up. She makes some good points on using paper towels and Just puts them in water until the seed pops and then takes it out to plant. I did that once goofing around at a job site with some other guy's and put it in a bottle with some water and it did sprout.https://ssl.cgicafe.com/clients/hmoonhydro.com/rockwool.html

i'm going to get some pics of the finished product here real soon... im happy.

i was about to germ some seeds for the first time and i was going to just germ them in rockwool cubes because i am using a hydro setup. the main thing i am concerned with is like several of you mentioned not being able to see if the seeds grems. would it be better to use the paper towel method and after the seeds have sprouted carefully put them into the rockwool cubes or would it be best to just accept not being able to watch them germ and germinate them directly in the rockwool cubes? what do you guys think? i am just really paranoid that if i germ them in a paper towel that when i try to put them into the rockwool cubes it will kill the newly germed seeds.

If you use those plugs that I posted above you can pick them up and open them up to see if they are started. That is what I like about them. I'm with you, I like to be able to see if it's sprouting without having to wait to see it pop up through your medium. You know if it is any good a lot sooner. I use them for cuttings, Rooted clones and Hydro.

Sorry for been that late guys... 8 of my 10 seeds made it in rockwool cubes. But next time i germ seeds they are going in paper towel first. It's way faster in the paper...

I will update my journal as soon as i get my hand on a new camera.. :(
