I know there has to be a easy solution to this problem but i am new and have no idea.
I have a 10 gallon tote with with 3 plants. After the last water change the roots started to turn blackish brown, not sure if it is algae or rot. I have never had this happen this is 3rd grow. Help please, this was the last change before i put them in flower :???:.
Sorry no pictures and i wont have a camera until after Christmas:confused: :hump:

Thanks, I put 1 tsp of hydrogen peroxide per gallon of water. The discoloration went away but i woke up this morning and it was back but not as much was there. I added another 2 tsp and it went away.
Am I going to need to do this continuously to keep the algae from re-forming?

ok if its a brown slime its root rot , algea is green . sounds like root rot to me , your going to need to keep on cleaning out your res constantly without stressing your plants , i would go buy some hygrozyme immediatly.

I have had the same problem in the past i by no means am an expert but this is how i solved it. First make sure there is no light at all entering your tank (obvious) second increase your areation (mucho bubbles to the max) and third use a good enzyme.
I use cannazyme and an high output air pump probably twice what i need, but i havent had the rot since and massive growth. The enzyme turns root waste into food. I also change out my water every 7 days its a little trouble and cost a little more due to nute use but seems to help i used to change every 10 days. Good luck.

I think I have root rot, my roots have stopped growing, they float in the water, and they have a brownish color to them. They arnt slimey or black anywhere, but maybe i caught it before then. At first I just added hygrozine to the nutrient solution of my DWC and within 2 days the water turned to a murky brownish color and my ph skyrocketed from 5.8 to 6.5. I then changed the res to have only pure tap water and hygrozine. I hope this will kill my root rot.

Thats what Im doing, dont know if it will work, some people say you gotta cut the roots off. I did this a few days ago to my second res that had even worst root rot, I took a 1ft plants roots completely off, just leaving about an inch of roots from the main stem. She's hanging in there thank god, dont know about the others though.

I'm in the exact same boat and I just cleaned everything with bleach, sprayed the roots with peroxide and put in a ph-ed tap water with peroxide mix. So far so good...
