I've been looking into buying or possibly making a rosin press. Just trying to save money from buying from dispensaries, also maybe a new hobby? Anyways, i found a few on heat press nation, all had good reviews but didnt state what the use was for.. obviously i cant ask them. Anybody have a recommendation??

Keep an eye out for a set of used press plates on ebay and Craigslist. I don't know what the forum rules are here about solicitation. But, with all of these people that are getting into making rosin, you're going to have folks who started with a small set of plates and want to increase their volume and are willing to unload their old plates. A friend of a friend recently got a set for under $150. If you could swing that, you could pickup a 6 ton H-frame press from Freight Harbor (you'll need a ram adapter...but they're cheap) and you'd have a solid starting unit. I've seen the 6 ton units on sale at Harbor Freight for $80-90. Then, if you're into it, upgrade to a Dake or Baleigh, for just a little more money. Anyway, good luck.

I've not used one myself. So, I couldn't say. Perhaps someone else here has first-hand experience. But, I seriously doubt you'll be able to apply enough pressure to your material, as they are basically adapted t-shirt and cap presses.

For about a hundred more, you can get this combo. It just depends on what you're looking for though.

If it's for personal use, use a hair straightener and unbleached parchment paper. Boom. Done.
Add a 600lb du-walt clamp and your golden :) I've been using mine for well over a year and get great results. The highest percentage yield back I got was ~33% but that was hash.. Flower I believe was a 20% and it was tasty :)

If you wanna add more precision, buy an ar gun to check the temps :)

Tottaaalllyyyy hoping to not pay more than 300$ :( and see? Thats exactly why i asked!
Ok so buy a nice press, high quality, I just bought a beautiful dake 10t for 350$. They usually come with a set of press plates for free. Put them in an oven and test them with a laser gun, use oven mitts to align , press as usual.

A little free handy til you can afford a solid set of digital plates, but it works. Dont skimp on your press brah
