Color: Medium amber.
Nose: Wet oak, lacquer, caramel, honey sweetness, syrupy orange/Old Fashioned.
Tasting Notes: Red Hots, lightly charred oak, orange peel, prickly spice. Complex, but so drinkable.
Overall: A+. An unbelievably well-made bourbon. The sweet and spice are perfectly balanced...the oak and fruit tantalize the tongue...the aromas are simply delicious...100 proof is spot on. What if I told you this was the best $40 I've ever spent on whiskey? I think it is.

Last week, I posted a review of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof (ECBP), batch "B517," Heaven Hill's second ECBP release of 2017 and Whisky Advocate's whiskey of the year.
I've had this bottle of 139.4 proof ECBP Batch 11 (a Spring 2016 release) for a while now and have not posted any thoughts. Only Batches 6 (140.2 proof) and 8 (139.8 proof) are stronger. On a cold winter night like tonight, this will do just fine.
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof (Batch 11)

$55 at Southern Spirits in Fort Mill, SC
Color: Radiant, like an old copper kettle with a fresh shine.
Nose: Lord have mercy. It's like the wife is pulling brown sugar crumble coffee cake from the oven on a Sunday morning and we're skipping church. It's super dark and sweet- dark chocolates, rum on fire, caramelized brown sugar.
Tasting Notes: An atomic bomb of brown sugar, Grandmother's homemade caramels, and vanilla frosting. It's a bit of a 'Trojan horse' with the sweet sip up front followed by a 139.4 proof punch in the tongue.
Overall: A. This is a big boy / girl bourbon whiskey; an absolutely beautiful, aromatic, delicious spirit. Cheers.

Best Bloody Mary I have EVER had and over the years I've had a few, from fucking Disneyland no less! LOL the alcohol was so strong and stealth and the mix so tasty and delicious, perfectly balanced savory heat, bam I was useless in minutes.
(figured it belonged in this thread)

I'm a big fan of Islay scotches. trying to find/taste some of the best.
Laphroaig has been one of my faves for years now (10 yr, 15 yr, 18 yr, quarter cask, etc). Lagavulin 16 is also up there.
2 that I want to try:
Ardbeg 10
Kilchoman Machir Bay
any suggestions of other Islay's to try??

This stuff is an absolute fucking revelation. It has that non-smoky Speyside style I like, and it outperforms Glenlivet 12 at about half the price. This is my new house bottle.

Dig a little deep and you'll find Tomintoul is the producer of the TJ Speyside; I believe there is also an association with Glenlivit (besides being on the same estate)
You should. It was very good. Not quite the GL 15 but better than GL 12 and the price point makes it taste even better.
Yup you mentioned that at some point they had to start bottling off or dilute their big brand, smart ass

Got another bottle of Glenlivit 15 this a.m. at Bev-Mo; also wanted to try something new. Check this out: tasty speyside, very similar to a slightly dilute GL 15. Did a side by side tasting (hell it's Friday morning and I'm retired); not in the GL 15 class but I'll buy this again over GL 12. And was $26 for the 750ml bottle! A nice everyday drinker
