seedlings and lighting distance

Hi,

I was wondering what is the optimum distance to have your seedlings from your lighting to avoid problems like stretching etc..

Fluoro's an inch-3 inches, HID, if your hand is hot, the plants are hot, move it up. I have mine under 2 105 W CFL's and I am at about 3 inches, no stretching...

as close as you can without burning them.
