Seeds from a herme????

Will they be viable? Would they be female? Male? Or both?

I was given some seeds by a guy that said the smoke was amazing but plant hermied so it put out seeds.

Thank you

I would think feminised. Find out from grower what stress "triggered" herm. If it was light schedule screw up. They will be prone to herm again if you're light schedule messes up. And maybe still herm anyway. Best to move on to other genetics, might be ok if you're are not going for perpetual harvest. But it's no fun doing all that work and have beautiful buds, only to find those sexy swollen calyxs caylxs(sp) to be seeded.

Thank you. I'm not looking for any particular harvest just playing around with free seeds for a bit before I decide which ones to buy. Ill post a pic later they all popped after three days in soil.

Your plants look good. I'm in the same situation as you, friend gave me some seed from what I'm assuming is a hermie by the way he describes his plant. Mine were started a couple months ago so I can't tell what they are yet. I'm experimenting with different soils, training, nutes, etc, before I pay a lot of money for good genetics. Happy growing!

Ya will get both male and female, they will still produce bud.But there is a higher chance of the bud having the odd seed .But should not be a big problem .If the seeds are from a reg grown plant that produced seed ,then the beans will be Feminized ,they may not be stable but more often than not they do ok.I have just chucked a load of seeds,on top of some coco in the garden,Nearlly all of them have made it .There all doing really well in this weather we are having in the uk.there all from Feminized bud ,that had the odd bean in .They was all really light in color ,I did not think they would have made it ,but 80% have.

True story of mine. (a few times)
You'll get a few males, a few females, and many more hermaphrodites than usual.
If you have other seeds, ude them.
Sorry OP.

My friend was given some seeds 10 years ago and has been planting the seeds from previous harvests every year since.
He has no clue what the strain was. A "few seeds" to him are a small palm full on every bud! That's a lot to me?
I'm pretty sure he has caused a lot of issues with the strain because he will start seeds, then immediately put them under 12/12 lighting until they start to show the sex, then reverts what he thinks are the females to an 18/6 or 24/0 light cycle.

I read that hermaphrodite plants are meant to be the avenue to producing feminized seeds, but I expect it takes a more controlled environment for truly feminized seeds. I would be more inclined to suggest a mix of male/female and higher ratio of hermies from those as suggested by others.

Yea your right ,high chance of them been female, but don't forget how a Feminized seed is produced ,it's a reg grown plant stressed of SC to produce pollen. Then over time it's made more stable ,there a bit more to it than that ,but you get the jist.A Feminized seed will all ways carry a bit of that male hidden in it some where,It's why reg grown plants make far better mothers ,they can be kept for has long has ya need them in the right room,I had a cheese plant 7 year ,this would not be possible with a Feminized mother ,it would turn on you at some point ,and produce seeds.if your growing with Feminized seeds then your far better off ,just using them a handful of times max,I only ever use them once .From seed to flower then the next seed. That way I know there is far less chance of getting seed.

Interesting stuff - I am definitely willing to believe that regards the mother plant...

It's not something I'm just guessing at its what I have learnt over the past 12/14 year ,all seeds can turn on you but Feminized seeds will all ways turn on you at some point .There just waiting for the slightest error change temps ,light leaks ext .most are ok and good for use a few times then ,get a new seed going

Can you tell them apart that early?
No I got a bag,of a mate and just chucked them on top of the pot ,did not expect them to make it,so be fun later on .Theres about 6 strains in these. If I had bought these I would have complained, because they was all light .Really light too ,just goes to show you that just because a seeds light does not mean it's not gonna grow well,I never even used to even bother with light seeds ,but will be doing in future.Did not even plant them either, all grew from just been on the coco surface. There is a Gorrilla Glue # 4 in there somewhere, brought back from Spain in a urine sample jar ,that turned on him ,those will be Feminized ,because the plant there from is a regular plant.

Yea that was my idea, get back into growing get my rooms and equipment dialed in before buying seeds, that's not easy either never would have thought there would be so many strains to choose from.
