I was asking if you got a receipt for the amount you paid for your script could you use it on your taxes as a medical expense that wasn't covered by your health coverage?

The only thing you can clame is the actual purchase of the Cannabis.....or starting materials ie. seeds or clones

So a DG can claim per gram to the patient and both can claim it to CRA?
The way I’m seeing it looks like only the patient buying the cannabis can make a clame as a medical. expense
the only thing a grower can clame is the cost of the seeds or clones they purchased.....only from a authorized LP of course.

It doesn’t really make sense to me that I can’t clame the cost of all my grow equipment to grow my Meds. Especially considering how exspesive everything is.

You guys are talking cannabis product as an expense. That's interesting. Hadn't thought about that. Let me ask my question in another way.

If you need a hernia operation and the wait time is going to be 4 years in our normal system...so you decide to go to false creek healthcare and pay $5000 for a private operation that can be done next week. You'll get a receipt for that $5000. Can you claim that $5000 on your taxes as a medical expense that wasn't covered by your normal medical coverage?

and then back to ganja medical terms: Would your price that you paid for your medicinal cannabis prescription be tax deductible since it isn't covered by everyday medical insurance?

Also, that is an excellent comment that perhaps the cannabis that you pay for - would the amount you pay be a tax deduction. That's a great question.

Thank you GB123. It looks like a prescription for medical cannabis is not covered. It should be. Hope it happens someday.

Hmmm, a friend just told me that he did use his prescription cost as a tax deduction and it was not contested. That's very interesting. I don't know what to say after hearing that...

Was he audited? In reality, your taxes are not looked at by a person unless they are audited...

I'll have to ask him if he was audited. I honestly don't have an answer for you. I'm asking the question about the prescription price being a deduction because it's facing me right in the face as I think about going into the new program.

Have a good day all.

Confirmed the following information just a few minutes ago. Friend wrote back and said the following:

"Dr fees are absolutely deductible. I’ve done it for years and I also worked at CRA. I've have been audited a few times with no issues. Try it. Call them and ask if Dr fees are deductible 1800 959 8281 if memory serves correct."

I have to call that number to find out.

So the thousands you pay are deductible?...

i imagine it's either not allowed or a grey area. doctors are not allowed to charge to write a prescription so it's not a "doctors fee" it's a bribe. are you sure your friend was referring to bribing a doctor for a pot prescription and not regular things like a sick note

I haven't paid anything yet whatfg. They could be. I'd have to phone that number and confirm. I'll also have to ask my tax specialist when I got to see him next tax season.

legal canada, what you're talking about is a huge grey area. Doctors don't charge anything because they're on contract with another corporation. It's the other corporation that you're paying for services I guess. I'm not Kirk Tousaw's the lawyer, so I don't know what the deal is. I do believe prices are coming down though. There was a time when they wanted $6000 for just a 40 g p d prescription in the acmpr and another $6000 for renewal. Yes, I know that shouldn't be allowed. So who here is challenging that or running for government? Hopefully somebody will. Maybe I will someday. Who knows.

In the meantime, are there any designated growers out there?

I'm probably going to get in shit for asking, but who honestly uses more than an oz/day? Even if you turned it all to oil, that's a lot of oil/month. I could see maybe a cancer patient that juices whole plants maybe uses more but idk.

Some people cover all the bases and use all methods of intaking cannabis. Don't forget even at high doses a tolerance can be built over time
