Single cola

I'm just wondering if anyone has done this before I go test it myself and possibly waste a harvest.

I know if you want single colas you 12/12 from clone.

However, I want to veg for a while first to get taller colas due to having powerful lights and to get most of them.

If I prune off side branches but leave the fan leaves on the main stem. When I initiate 12/12 will buds still form at those nodes? I've never quite noticed if buds form on the side branches or they form from somewhere else.

Cheers

Yes they will if you give them enough time to recover before you flip. Don't prune off the side branches; snip the topmost tallest colas to induce the sides to become new colas. Look for new growth shoots to form before you trim off any more. Snip the tips off but not the fans. Do it right and your plant will be flat and wide instead of tall. Learn about supercropping and lollipopping....

He clearly stated he wants single cola plants, not topping to get multiple colas.

To the OP If you cut the side branches you be fine.

No need to cut off side branches...just dont top or lst and you will end up with classic single cola christmas tree shape.

I'll need to cut off side branches when running a sog though. The single colas will be placed very close together. 4-8 per sq ft for best yields.

8 colas can fit in a sq ft as long as it's just a single cola.

I run 12/12 from clone to get single cola plants. They usually get just a few days of veg after I transplant the clone to a 1liter container. The average strain gets flowered at about 3-4" tall and finishes at 14-16" . Stretchier sativas like my lemon haze get flowered at about about 1" and finish at 16-18". If I give them just an extra day or 2 of veg there's a huge difference in finishing height and they can start to try to branch out at the bottom. My skunk flowered at 3" finishes at 14-16" ..but flowered at 4" it will finish at about 20-24" and the bottom nodes will try to branch out and reach up to the light.

Each strain seems to have a sweet spot. One important thing I learned is - Don't be concerned about throwing all the clones into 12/12 on the same day. Throw them into flower when they are ready in order to keep them all a uniformed finishing height/size. If they get flowered a few days apart you can still harvest them all on the same day cuz a few days difference doesn't matter much at harvest
