Sir_dabs First Grow *Total Newbie*

As most of y'all know, I've finally got the hell out of the life of renting apartments, and my wife and I have purchased our first home.

I've waited for this day since Amendment 20 was passed..

Ole Sir_dabs gets to learn the fine art of cannabis cultivation, and I'm eager to begin this journey.
With that being said.. I look to the best sub-forum on the web..

Colorado MMJ Patients.
My” closer” friends here already know what I've already obtained and know that I'm in need of a room design.

Due to unforseen conflicts.. The room must be built in the garage (I really wanted ” true indoor”)

I've got a very close friend in construction, and he's coming over this weekend to figure material costs and whatnot, he will accept cannabis and or oil for payment, so I'm good there.

I will update this thread as progress is made, if anyone has an idea on how I could get a” jump” on things, without the actual structure not in place yet, that would be kind of cool..

Or if one should advise, that I wait til all my ducks are in a row before breaking any soil?

As always...

The advice is much appreciated, Thank you guys!!

Off to work, i will post tonight. Good luck. Sucks you are stuck in the Garage, but it could be worse, believe me, it could be worse.

The strains are to be determined...

Most likely, a certain house of the Tree variety, will be providing my strains.
Any suggestions to start, something noob friendly?

Seriously, man, I'm just so happy for you! A bit jealous (after all, who wouldn't want to design a grow from the ground up in the tutelage of the folks here?), but seriously very excited for you!

When do you expect to break ground, so to speak?

I live in Colorado as well, (the front range) and my flower room is the farthest room in the back of the house. I end up using a space heater back there all winter. Only at lights off, but it will get 56-58 in the back room in January. One of the biggest considerations with setting up a grow, is temperature and air flow. These are probably the most overlooked as well. Most people start making corrections to their temps when they start spiking or falling or after they notice visible damage or slowed growth.
I would do a "dry run" so to speak, and run everything for a couple days while monitoring temps and such.
Also I added an humidifier to my flowering room this summer and the difference is apparent.
It is so dry here most the time. That will be your biggest challenge here in Co. Temps and humidity. As you know it can be 70 in February and two days later, 5 degrees.
If that garage isn't insulated, you may want a tent, or a small controlled space. constructed in your garage.
You may spend more electricity keeping the plants warm at night, then you spend running all the lights and fans.
I am not trying to discourage you, quite the opposite.
I just don't want to see you four weeks into flowering in December, wake up to shivering plants. I know I am new to the Co. thread, but I have been growing on the front range here for several years and temps are what I first struggled with the most.
The people here at RIU are awesome, I also am excited for you!

Good post!
This is where i was going to start with you too, get the area set up and working proper before getting any plants going. We want to make sure that temps can handle most swings, and you have plans if things get out of hand.
I have extra stuff that may come in handy for you.
Also, i was looking at the purchase you made and i do not see a carbon filter. This is a must have by the time you reach flowering. Don't want to upset the new neighbors, or draw unwanted attention.

Important to know up from how stealthy the grow needs to be. It was a primary factor for my design and I am glad that the filter and ducting were installed before starting plants. Do you know how many electrical amps you have available for this project? After figuring out my amp draw it became apparent that I would need to add a 25' heavy 12 ga extension cord for one of the lights to keep within the 20% safety margin. If any cords are getting hot you made a mistake and a mistake in this area can burn your house down, so I suggest running the numbers early in the process. Also, the ballasts generate heat, so plan their mounting out to help with the temps. In my case the ballasts got moved out of the grow room. Congrats, have fun!:peace:

Hey thank you very much Jus!!

I'm super excited about this shit, yes indeed, with the great minds in this section, solid advice is a ” give in”

My friend does the construction for a living, and has knowledge in grow rooms. I haven't seen any of his work in the grow room capacity, but as far as general craftsmanship..this guy is top-notch. Does beautiful solid work, and never ever” cuts corners”.

We are fairly close friends, so I know he is on my side, and not going to take advantage.

I hope to have a structure in place within two weeks, we have a plan to insulate the structure itself and later into the grow we can keep building outwards..if that makes sense..

Super dabbed..lol

And..Thank you for everybody's words of advice..

I apologize about late replies and pm's and shit, I'm still getting settled in here...and I'm still stuck with no wi-fI connection..4G sucks ass.

About the electrical...

I'm going to have my friend verify everything, but the previous owner was an electrician, and it certainly looks professionally done..

I had a chance to speak with him on the day of closing, and pointed out what he did, I believe an extra breaker is in place, but I know for sure he added the proper circuitry.

There are 5 brand new power outlets along one wall of the garage including one with a GFI outlet.(The same that are usually in bathrooms)

Again thanks for all the well-wishes and great advice...
+ rep for those that RIU ” allowed” me to rep...

I swear..I think I spread it everywhere...
Lol

Today is a remarkable moment in my lifetime, this day marks the beginning of what I intend to do for the rest of my existence. Grow and cultivate cannabis.
Day #1: 3 plants

Lol... as one may have guessed, I have a very good friend help me out and got these babies started for me.
Said friend wishes to stay anonymous, so the strains will remain silent for now, as I'm fairly sure the strains will reveal identity.

I just hope I don't fuck up...haha

These ladies are right around 3' tall.. I'm wondering how many watts I should be using at this stage?
*I have several options, as my unit will run 250/400/750/1000 w.

More pics...

^ Ignore tag in soil, that is coded for my own awareness.

That's what I got for now, hoping more comes through to leave some room for error, as I'm sure some sorry of failure is inevitable, being so inexperienced..

I'm currently going to be in Newbie Central, dialing in as much knowledge as possible.

Thoughts, ideas and critique is welcomed...
Got a lot of work to do..

Thanks for reading, happy Sunday guys!!
Will update with each step o'progress.

I know, I cheated, but hey... Sir_dabs has some great friends..

So, I just consider... I will be researching growing from seed as well, I'm just extremely lucky to have such an amazing group of friends.

Off to study.

WOOOOO! I am stoked man! Three plants that are sexy and ready for some wattage!

LOL, it's not cheating...I think it is actually a better way to learn, because this way you can concentrate on the plants needs instead of worrying about sexing and what not. NEXT run you can worry about that. ;)
Should be a good time my friend! Subbed to say the least. :D
