Slowing down veg growth

How could one slow down growth with ought running into deficiency or stretch issues?.

I would not do less light, you could end up with stretch. I found out (accidentally) that lower temps slowed growth quite a bit without causing too much stress. Just my .02.
Ah that sounds interesting. Could it have negative effect on root health though?.

Maybe, but other than the occasional over feed, and light bleaching, my plant seems really happy. It's my first grow, but when I re-potted her, two times, the roots looked great.

When my plants are growing too fast in veg I switch to seedling fertilizer and I get stingy... I also find restricting the root system slightly works. (When you do relieve the root-bound plants you just have to unbind the roots a little.) I've also had good luck with LST and supercropping when I've needed to significantly affect the plant height for flower. (In veg, if the plants are at or near the height of the light in flower, I think you would have to use LST or supercropping.) I've never tried lowering the temperature but I like the suggestion... probably the least stressful on the plant! Best of luck!

Not for me, My flower room wasn’t ready so I kept the vegged plants growing in the low 60’s/ high 50’s. The plant would not grow but the roots must have been growing because as soon as I added a heater to the room they grew over 12” in 3 days.

Look up thigmomorphogenesis. Basically rubbing the internodes a few times or brushing something along the tops of the plants, like a broomstick, so they bend over and snap back. Yes, it sounds weird to rub internodes but is apparently effective in keeping them from growing.

This video shows the brushing, which is the easiest way to do a number of plants at the same time. There's a certain number of times you're supposed to brush them, can't recall offhand.
