In wine they use the term " terroir" from wiki:
Terroir (French pronunciation: [tɛʁwaʁ] from terre, "land") is the set of all environmental factors that affect a crop's phenotype, unique environment contexts and farming practices, when the crop is grown in a specific habitat. Collectively, these contextual characteristics are said to have a character; terroir also refers to this character.[1]
Some artisanal crops for which terroir is studied include wine, coffee, tobacco, chocolate, chili peppers, hops, agave (for making tequila and mezcal), tomatoes, heritage wheat, maple syrup, tea, and cannabis.

A friend grew a strain called Agent Orange the original not the ones that came later, he grew at 4500 ft in the Klamath Mountains it was almost toxic, after he moved to the Sacramento valley at el 650 and grew it it lost the smell and the super potency everything the same but the location.

Its not just the soil, its the whole environment that can make taste change.

Two or three years ago there was a bush fire a few kilometers from my plot. Lots of smoke for a few days.
When smoked the flowers had a smokey BBQ tinge to it. Was quiet nice.
