Small Jumping bugs in Dirt

I have some bugs in my pots. I see em just under the surface moving around. They look like little flies or lice. Dark gray. Some of them jump too. It looks they have wings but I can't find my magnifying glass. Any ideas what they are or how to get rid of them? I was thinking maybe neem oil or dish soap. Sorry no camera

Im more interested in how to get rid of them than what they are.

I have the same problem. They are lice. From what I have gathered they are relatively harmless but you can go to your local garden center and they will recommend a pesticide with neem oil. It will kill them but it will take a week or so.

Cover your palnt in potroleum jelly. It suffocates lice and quashes there eggs. YOU HAVE TO WASH IT OFF OF YOUR PLANTS within 24 hrs or it will kill them because it also covers the pores of your plant. Wash it off with water and a cloth. also put a layer of potrolium over the soil so they cant come up to breath theyll be dead in 24 hours then scoop off the top layers of soil along with the potrolium.

I heard neem makes your plant tatse like the stuff and i also heard it doesnt work, Mos tpeople say they have to keep spraying because they come back in like a week. Id cover the top layer with petrolium,if there not on the leaves.

Thanks for the help brohans. For I while i thought they were flea beetles which also jump but I looked up Plant Lice and it did mention the jumping kind. I went with an organic pesticide cuz It would seem kinda hard getting all petrolium off the leaves. Plus any time I come in contact with petrolium jelly I get an uncontrollable urge to beat it furiously and abandon anything I'm doing. Haha Jk ?

gnats is what it sounds like to me when the eggs hatch they will feed on the roots of your plants it wont KILL your plants BUT it will fuck them up and make them Hermie out. hang a hot shot no stick pest strip in the room they work better then anything i have used so fare.

yeah somehow I don't see the larvae making it up to a pest strip. all I've read on these mofos say that the ones on the roots don't cause as much damage as the ones on the leaves. But I never seen any flyin. Maybe really well hidden on the leaves. Wonder if they smoke well when dried...

OK it sounds like you have Thrips larvae in your soil as these little bastards DO JUMP.

I have had them in the past and dare say that i may get them in the future.

There are a few things you can do. Neem will help a little as it retards their growth.

After battling with these little fuckers i can confirm that i managed to eradicate them with the following few things

HOT SHOTS NO PEST STRIPS these i personally think are essential. Not much lives that manages to get into my grow room thanks to these little beauties. They release an odourless vapour into the room that is toxic to anything that crawles or flies. BUt these will not help anything in your medium. Thats where the next thing comes in .

SPINOSAD or MONTERAY GARDEN INSECT SPRAY. this is a type of bacteria that kills anything it touches or is ingested by.

These 2 things alone will kill them. You can make the spinosad into a spray and spray your plants all over and then with the left over spray you can spray this over the top of your medium. It works best in a moisture rich environment but will work as a spray on your plants also.

Then once a fortnight during Veg i spray my ladies with Neem oil spray.

Something else which will help you catch any fliers and believe me there will be some in there you just cant really see them as they are small. BLUE STICKY TRAPS thrips are attracted to the Blue.

This is what i did and used to get rid of the nuclear resistant THRIPS

Yeah I guess I should get me some o' dem pest strips then.
Thanks for the heads up Matt Damon's brother and previous RIU forum troll who mentioned the strips.
This reminds me of the time back in '69 when.... I don't really have memories of 69. those were crazy days.

NO Problem murderholic

If you get yourself those things in my list you should be good to go

Couple of treatments to make sure and hey presto you'll be clean again.

Also i cannot stress enough about cleanliness in your grow room.

I always make up a 10% bleach solution and clean my room down once a week with this solution. After the clean down i make up a spray bottle of spinosad and spray inside my grow with it. Then i place all my plants back inside and spray the door around my grow closet.

If you are in the USA then the HOT SHOTS are a few dollars.

For me in the UK i have to pay more for the shipping to the UK than the cost of 3 HOT SHOTS. 3 x HOT SHOTS $15 1 x Shipping to the UK $24
