Installed it with the option high end carbon filter. All went well. Turned it on, let it run for like 15-20 minutes to clean out loose carbon etc like stated in direction.

Then I filled up a 5 gallon bucket with nice clean RO water. Dip my Truncheon to check that the PPM is 0 and the PPM have actually gone up!!!! WHAT IN THE F!!!! Son of a!!!!

i see this mistake all the time. the tall boy is not a r/o filter. it's a prefilter. hydro logic has 4 r/o filters (stealth 100, stealth 200, merlin pro, evolution 1000) and 3 pre filters for them (small boy, tall boy, big boy). the prefilter is designed to take out sediment and chlorine. that's it. sorry dude but you got the wrong one.

FML! LOL I'm stupid. All I want to do is remove some damn chloramine so my Great White isn't being immediately killed.

pretty sure that is what the tallboy does. basically you won't have to let water sit out over night anymore. but it will not remove the dissolved solids from your water. and none of these filters get you to "0" ppm. close, but not quite zero. my water has a ppm of about 120 and my evolution 1000 get's it to around 2-3ppm.

check out the Stealth 100 or 200. the smaller the filter the lower the gpm is. with any r/o filter though you will need a pre-filter to remove the chlorine. for those sytems you would get the Small Boy. or you can still just let the water sit out overnight. kinda pointless though. drop a few extra bucks and use the water right out of the tap.

they are all on this page from greners (http://www.greners.com/i/pumps-irrigation/water-fiters.html)

Dont buy Hydro Logic.. Now that's a start. Seriously, there are WAY better options out there. Do some homework first, sheesh. :wall:

i use hydro logic and they are great. i have the evolution 1000 and the big boy. both of them been running super smooth for over a year. i also used to run the stealth 200 and the small boy for almost 2 years. they were great as well. i have no porblems with them and think their product is great. i even sold my stealth 200 and small boy to a buddy. he changed the filters and is using it still. he loves it.

I have a Spectra Pure RODI filter and it works great. I originally got it for my reef tank but it came in handy for my growing as well, we also use it for drinking water. It has paid for itself for sure in the many years I have owned it. When the RO membrane is fresh (which it is not right now) I will get 10-15 ppm out of the RO filter then 0 pmm after the DI resin. IMO 0ppm is not needed for growing so now that I no long have any reef aquariums I have no need for the DI so it will be swapped to an extra carbon filter. RO filters are the way to go I never have and never will give my plants tap water. If you are growing hydroponic then IMO a RO filter is on the list of needed equipment and is just as important as a good light.
