SoG questions

Looking to build a sea of green setup for a 5' x 2.5' tent. Was going to build it 4' x 2' and pack as many plants into the space as possible. Would like to use one central reservoir to make it easier. Would something like this work? Any specifics on pipe diameter and pot size would help.

hope some more people chime in due to the fact im inexperienced. but from what i understand, you would have a better yield in that small of an area by doing a SCROG opposed to the SOG method, you could put 2-4 plants in and scrog it for max yield in a small space.

I've thought about that but I grow in DWC and it's hard to change nute solution. I hate soil. Always have problems with it.

Guess I don't fully understand the scrog concept. I have to move plants around to change out buckets of nutes. It seems as if growing through a screen would cause difficulties with that.

yea im in the same boat, but you could just use a manual pump only like $12 and you just lift the lid maybe an inch for res changes. also the scrog can be lifted with the plant. Carefully...

Scrog sog =same

Scrog takes way longer its for people that have plant counts.

Sog is fast two weeks from cutting clones your flipping.
So its a wash.

If i didnt have plant count concerns

I would be using my old aero/nft setup running tons of cuts..

Just my 2

Definte thought has to be put into a decent scrog

From the net to how your going to change nutes

Then after you thought it all through .....
Comes the fun stuff you didnt think about.

Like the plant being so heavy it breaks the lid.

Plants growing to where you cant lift the lid ect ect.

They have to be pretty big but it happens
I busted 2 inch pots all the time.

But if they are scrogd well the net will hold it up

i wouldnt worry about breaking lids in a smaller space. And the 10inchers probably wont break cause your roots will fill the space supporting it.

If i were using a bucket id use a 5 inch net pot
Good mix of stability and water volume. @ 4 gals or so.

Biggest thing with a bucket is a good air pump
Unless it recirculating

im probably going to switch to a 6 inch net pot to get a bigger res, what do you think about me moving a 4 week old from a 10inch to a 6?
also i have 4 active air 7.8L (its like 140gph or something) plenty for the 2.5 gallons it currently holds.. im thinking with the 6 inch ill get like 3.5 or 4 gallons and my temps will be better.

Ha ha that depends on how ham handed you are:)

If you can be very careful it wont miss a beat.

If you mangle the roots it will take a few days to a week to bounce back

Ive done both lol

SOG = Sea of Green (many small pots/plants jammed into a space. Minimal veg time.)

SCROG = Screen of Green (veg into the screen until 1/2-3/4full.)

Heres a combo, mothers scrogged in back right corner. All others are clones vegged 2wks then flowered in 6” pots.

Not the same at all.1884359D-AC50-4A28-A758-AB3CC7DE3912.jpeg

Well duh...

The question was which was more productive.

As i said it a WASH.

That doesn't mean it works if you try to do both at the same time lol

Duh theres a difference between flowering some moms and clones.

But in the end the time you spent vegging is offset by not having a long veg...

Basically you can take months to grow a scrog to gill a certain amount of area ...

Doesnt matter if they are scroged or not if you have the area packed the same.

The outcome will be close..... any extra you gain from scrog. Would have been around = to the extra veg time ..

Make sense now?

With a growing area the size of the op it would be easier to sog
Then scrog especially for a beginner.

To the op if you go sog in a nft type setup just use 4 inch pvc fence posts and skip sprayer heads they are just a headache.

Let me know if you need help designing it
Did low pressure aero for a few years.

If you go scrog i suggest a tote set up with emphasis on makeing it easy to fill and drain with plants and a net. Or whatever medium you are more comfortable with.
