Hey RIU Gang,

Alright first of all I've been growing indoors/hydro for 7 years using 600s(MH) for Veg and 1ks(HPS) for Bloom. currently I am running 2 600s in a 5x5 and 4 1ks in a 8.6x9.6. I would like to hear some equivalents in LED. The more info the better, I need to learn about heat, actual power draw, penetration etc. I'm stuck in my ways with HPS but i want to learn and very serious about making the transition if it can save me money on electricity and maintenance in the long run. I dont want cheap set ups that arent very efficient. I currently pull 2-3lbs a light, i want to continue to grow fat trunks, fat colas, massive root balls etc.

Thanks Everyone,
BP

Only way to go is DIY cob, ~650w of cob equals about 1k hps. Cost about $3k for 2400w of cob for a complete kit that you assemble yourself. Most of the prebuilt fixtures on the market are either garbage, or really expensive, even the expensive ones have poor light spread so they need to be put on movers. Beginners seem to be pulling around a gram per watt off the cobs, since you already know how to grow by the sound it, 1.5g per watt may be attainable for you assuming you don't go full retard and put your lights 12'' away from your canopy.

Bud structure with led is typically smaller but the bud is much denser, people have put this down to low IR emitted from led

I grow with a 450w (170w draw) mehizhi 120° reflector series. Seriously good for veg. Covers my 4x2x5 tent with light. Flower it's holding it weight. Paid less than 200$ Canadian through Amazon. I would double it up in the future to really pack on some dongs but I am well impressed for it's size. Since you are accustomed to hid I will tell you the light penetration and coverage is not as good. However you will get cheaper bills and you plant will get more "usable light". Your gonna need 1 led per large plant or one for about 4-6 plants in a sog

i have im looking at 4 600w Vero29 V7 and 2 300w Vero29 V7s from timber grow lights
Those are some deeeeeecent lights. What's the sq/ft your trying to cover?? And about how many plants? It's gonna be hard to pull 2-3lbs a plant without some supplemental lights.. . This is imo

If u want to pack on the weight you should use a hid in conjunction with led or go straight up cobs... Imo side lights are good but your spending more than you need to at that point
exactly what ive been thinking. i think the only to continue getting what i want is HID

UV isn't all it's cracked up to be,only worry about it when you have all of your lighting requirements dialed in then you can sweat the small things.
Thing is almost all LEDs have uv lights.. although they may not seem like much science and many grow intake systems will tell you they are very beneficial for sterilization.

UVA only and they don't last long or work very well (and expensive). UVC sterilization something completely different. Again you worry about these small things once you have everything else dialed in and you want that last 1-2% performance out of your system.
