Thats just my opinion which is based off anothers results who I trust extremely well. @ttystikk

QB is easy to DIY. COB involves thermal pastes and it just doesnt seem as easy IMO.

There is also no denying that a single led that generates 3w is going to offer better spread than a single led that generates 100w
I dunno since every diode on the 12x6 board still has a different position and distance vs overlapping spreads of cobs.

TBH, I think its kinda moot. on my QB's and cobs, still have the same low PPF corners with in a few numbers.

When someone who believed in COB and spent so much on them switched to QB that to me speaks volumes. Overlapping spreads of COBs to me signals hot spots. Which are the opposite of even spread.

I will agree we are splitting hairs over the differences, but I having never run COBs am speaking out my ass when I compare the two and is based off my simpleton understanding of the field of LEDs.

But they are cheaper. Sure the timber ones he was quoting were put together, but at (1) hour per light setup thats (5) hours so unless he values his time at $400/hr hes saving money.

I much prefer the money in my pocket than someone elses.

... Are we forgetting these plants can grow in direct sunlight?? Idk about hotspots if you got your light height dialed in proper... The very benefit of having cobs is light distribution over the canopy. Also like nutrients, soil, locations and strains.... It don't matter what's cheaper people are gonna do what they want.. let the man spend the money he earned on whatever sun replacement device.

-edit- also I'm more concerned over hot spots created by people putting up tinfoil cause they saw it on t.v.

Indoor gardens can be up to 100 times more productive than outside.

just to throw in my .02 here i've been using 2x P300s by Platinum LED for almost 2 years now and absolutely love them! Platinum LED is one of the prebuild brands that you can really trust, which is naturally why they are on the pricier side. I also have a 300w galaxy hydro light that i use in addition to the P300s as a bloom booster. My clone/early veg tent runs 36w of full spectrum LED lights as well, the brand name on that light is ACKE LED, most people consider these "cheapo garbage LEDs" which they would be for anything other than what i use them for, with these "cheapo" lights i can keep my clones/early veg plants within 12"-18" of the lights with no negative effects.

In conclusion i recommend if you're changing to LED you simply do your research and go for quality, as the first responder had mentioned DIY COBs are a great option but quite pricey, not to mention a pretty big pain in the ass if you're not familiar with electrical circuits and soldering. Good trustworthy pre-build models will also be pricey but i personally recommend going with a pre-built model though simply because any quality brand (Platinum LED and Kind LED being the leaders) will have a warranty on it, where as no DIY kit will. I also recommend getting several smaller sized LEDs rather than one large one, gives you more control over the spread.

I've decided to go prebuilt. and I'm going to go with Timber Grow Lights 600w Vero29 V7(4) for flower and their 400w Vero29 V7(2) for veg. Thanks everyone for input. Once its installed I'll post pics and start a grow journal as well.

so you're just gonna veg with the 400, and the add the 600 in flower for a total of 1000

is that right?
