Question: has anybody ever tried sowing some seeds outdoors in the fall to grow the following spring?
Theoretically if one had access to a cold harty strain (I.E. something bred to withstand the temperate climate of the Midwest, for instance), couldn't a favorable spot be cleared in a fertile area and seeded in the fall? From what I understand, seeds naturally drop in the fall anyway and sprout the next spring in places like Nebraska that have wild hemp... that's not to say it is the same thing, but, in theory it could work right?
I also know that it can be hard to go from seed in an untended outdoor patch if you plant in the spring because, put simply, everything else had "sprung" and unless you want to pick through grassy for your tiny sprouts and weed around them meticulously, they lack any competitive advantage over native vegetation.
I'm thinking it might be fun to sow a few hundred seeds in a fertile ditch bank and see what pops up next year... if anything. Im sure only a few will even germinate. Before anybody jumps in to say "you won't get good bud with an untended patch, bruh", I know. It would just be an experiment to see if such a wild grow would be possible without much intervention... an experiment.
Just tossing it out there, what do you guys think? Has anybody done this?
