Ha A fellow CMH grower nice......Can this bulb be beat or what?? I think not....Which one are you running..GE or Philips??
I use the retro white due to open fixture rating(you know how much i hate glass shielding(lol)) and better spectrum(IMO)...
I've been trying to find an led replacement for the summer.......I'm staring to think their isn't any...what are your thoughts???
Anyways your girls look absolutely phenomenal under the CMH..........great work:clap:

Haha yeah I love the cmh, it's a bit cooler than hps, has a great spectrum, and they are cheap compared to the top hps. What's not to love? I use the Phillips retro white too, i believe mine is only rated for a closed fixture which is one reason it puts out so much uv, it could be just another reason. I have seen that they made a 600w cmh, but i haven't put the research in. I don't think it's the retro white though.

Heat wise you won't get much better than led. Cmh is next because it's easier to control the heat. next is t5s but it just spreads the heat all over, granted it's a reasonable amount of heat, it's just not as simple to control, especially once getting to the good watts. Then mh and hps. It all just about what your space needs are.

Now we come to the experimental/expensive.

If you want reduced heat and electricity there are a number Luxim based metal halide plasma lights out. They all run about 1k $+ but thats the price for getting things before the masses. The technology is cheap, it just needs a bigger support. I personally wouldn't use the Luxim based lights because they don't really have a full spectrum, they lack reds and should be supplemented by like a bloom booster led unit at least.

Then there's my personal favorite. Sulfur plasma. Mmmm... Sulfur plasma.... It just sounds cool. For 1600$ you can get a 300w pre-mass production model. Its a real sulfur plasma with a 4 foot light tube. It's a spinning bulb system, so certain components are not as long rated as an led, but are individually replaceable. Cool stuff :)

Honestly DoctorCanna, you talk out your ass.....save yourself. I'd actually like to see that LED knowledge guide you talk of though in the next 6-7 months. Seems like we know more legitimate information based on experience and simple facts than what you've been saying.

Anyways....Karr, that cola makes me want to run a side CMH. Amazing. I hope the PG260 throws down on my SCRoG like your spectra did.

Anyway, I'm thinking about a week and a half, then we will know what this light can do. Well at least what this light can do with me behind it. As i said, i think this grow was pretty good, but there are a few key things i could have done better that might have significantly added mass. Still it doesn't look too bad :p these are some of the densest nugs i have ever seen, moreso than when i combine my lights and more than some outdoor, we'll see how she dries out.



Ah. Forgot to mention. I have a few sets of 730nm coming in the mail from different sources, for my next grow/experiment.

One problem i for see with specific manufacturers is the range of spectrum for the ir emitters. This happens with every led as 730 or whatever spectrum is not just 730. One such example I saw was a 730 that had as much as 20% in the 660 range, and even a little 660 is enough to convert the pfr back to pr very very quickly. So i need to find a good supplier of 730 or my other option is to go with a 8xx spectrum which should prevent any 660 contamination. The 8xx should also, depending on variables, dip towards 730 so in theory it should cover my bases.

Well time will tell. I wish i had like 4 chambers I could spare so i could get more testing done more efficiently.

My sentence structure is shit............ha ignore it........
All retro whites are open fixture rated(see the coil rapped around the core)......actually all hps bulbs are open fixture rated/ yeah big shocker...they run at a low pressure(i know confusing/ MH bulbs are the issue) so when they fail its not catastrophic........a cmh bulb different story/thank god for that coil shield......
What i meant was a CMH replacement for the summer........by going led......do you think this is a viable replacement for a cmh???my god i sound repetitive.......im a little stoned........lol
I run two 250 watt cmh's in a 4x3.5 room(flowering) one in veg....and the results are like outdoor grown...........you would understand this........great smoke.

Sulfur plasma is scary good...........but so is the new gen(horticulture) CMH bulbs by philips(agrolite?) paired with cycloptics technology reflector called "all bright" gonna be a game changer.........

One reason i know this is going to happen is the new silicon chip technology that bridgelux is comming out with. Basically it disperses heat better for higher power chips, the manufacture process is easier and less exacting, and it's much cheaper especially when considering high power led banks.

Once this technology really amps up prices should drop a bit and once china rips them off to spite any patents they might have, the lights will be even cheaper.

Their main unit is being certified for use in the us and once certified will begin the mass production scale. That light is variable from 500 to 1300 watts! and with the light tube you can spread that light over quite a large area. i cant tell how done they are can you get a few close up pics with ize comparison, they look really frosty but very small, i would say 2 oz maxdried, also also dont give advice about spectrum if this is your first led grow, more spectrums is not better!
DrCanna dont you think its bad form to tell a person what to-and not to say on a thread that THEY started?

If you are so wise, why dont you start your own thread telling all of us LED idiots how its done? It should be complete with pics of your 1000lb per plant harvests and all that to back up the things you say on 'other peoples' thread and journals. Please also include a photocopy of your Phd Diploma from Harvard, and also the letter from NASA literally begging you to help them set up the first grow op in space.

Please also let me know whereabouts you are so I know which way to bow when I am praying.

Just check out the website will tell you everything , pretty cool their running vertical alignment with a great reflector...finally....
If their umol..readings are to be believed then we will have a serious contender to the gavita 1000w(400v) fixture...well see
Yeah I really want to wait for a new led but its been a year already........I'm bored(in between grows) and i'm starting to feel like I want too try something new. I've grown with fluoros/hid then came cmh(simplicity/whole cycle/loved it)...induction to me is just a rehash(still boring) of the same old........
Like many (indoor) growers i'm obessed with lighting and this tech just intriges me........and I'm gonna bite/ small panel(progrow180) just to get my feet wet......against all advice(thanks BTW) i'm gonna try it........little small side project.....still gonna run my cmh bulbs again in the near future(laying low for now/long story)...

Hey, this whole grow here is just a side grow :p

I bought this led about a year ago, considering what I paid and the results I have seen(well almost) I'm really not that upset that i could have an arguably better light for almost half the price.

That's the big thing. If you can live with taking a relatively small hit in excess price now, you don't have to wait. But in a year if something so new and great is out that ours are stupid to consider growing with... Well then i think guys like you and me will just be happy for the new technology, not spiteful.

Yeah i checked out that site, it has some great info. I didn't see a price yet, I'll have to go back and check. I would totally be up for 3 of those lights in a 3x4 or so room.

I'm going to get some update pics tomorrow. Its the end of week 8 i believe.

I'm getting pretty stressed with the led distributors. Its frustrating since none of the stores i find have 730nm LEDs let alone in stock ones. My plants can only be a week or so out, and the clones are comming off a jock horror now. Im doing one or two small plants in here and of the same batch of clones, im doing one or two clones in my normal flower room to act as a control to compare the progress between the standard 12/12 light schedule and the 11/1 experiment. Hopefully in 4 weeks we shuld know by then if its mission success or not.

Ok quick update. Week 7 Finished, now into week 8. So next Wed is likely to be the groundhog day of cutting. Its swelling up still, so it might be a little longer. we'll see.

I am excited and myself amazed how well this light has done so far as well as how simple this grow was.

I really cant take much credit. I abused the plant into a scrog, grew her in a dish tub (almost was a kitty litter pan), used the wrong fert to start, then a simple nute here and there to supplement the roots organic soil and she took care of herself.

I am definitely sold on low(ish) power leds in small spaces, i mean anyone can find this amount of space to grow in. A small cabinet, 2 pc fans (or one proper one) some dirt and a seed and you've got some decent bud.

I am not really flushing, i am somewhat leeching though as i have reduced the nutrient amount to about half and stopped all green fuse and floraliscious additives. I never do the flush water through for extended amounts of time especially when in real soil. I find what influences the taste of my weed the most is how well i cure it, if i mess it up its going to be hay like and rough, a good one will be smooth and somewhat sweet. Though honestly im not a huge smoke fan, sensitive throat i guess.

I am contemplating buying another cabinet identical to the one i have and setting up a 150 hps to use as a control in upcoming experiments. It would also be neat to see how much more difficult the same wattage hps is to cool than the led.

I have 150 hps in tent with 290 and 180 spectra , barely able to keep it cool with full set up. If you are doing hps go bigger if you can, same heat issues but more bang for buck, IMO...

your really really really far away from getting any adverse affects from the co2. its only a prob when run at 100% for more than a couple of days. since you dont have a tank and are not sealing off the room, this is impossible to acheive. i would only use the co2 at night tho, itll be a lot more effective
i don't see the point of running co2 at night, can you explain this m8
do you mean run co2 at night and run the lights during the night hours too ?

running co2 when the lights are on aids photosynthesis , running co2 when there is no light is as useful as pissing in the wind

Yeah i was really just talking about making a micro grow with a 150 hps that would be there to compare against this led cabinet, particularly when i start my experiments. I have another area for the main grow, my main hurdle with doing more grows for controls etc is staying within limits. I might kill one of my aurora indicas to keep in my limit, we'll see.
