Start autos in peat pellets?

tl;dr Would like to start autos w/ paper towel + jiffy pellet or just jiffy pellet -> final pot. Too much stress for auto roots?

Hey Automatons, how're they growing?

So I just finished my first regular grow and still have about half of my product drying in my drying cabinet.

I have 2x Auto Big Devil #2 (Sweet Seeds) and 3x Pineapple Express (Barney's).
Can anyone speak to either of these strains' quality and whatnot?

I would like to know if there would be anything wrong with starting my ladies off in peat pellets in a humidome since I would have more control over them?

I am an adept of the moist-paper-towel-kept-warm-between-two-plates method (usually with a low heat source underneath), as this has worked for all good seeds I have ever tried to germinate.
Would this be acceptable for autos, if one considers the "do not transplant autos" rule?
If not, what about jiffy pellets? If using jiffy pellets, I would either do paper towel + jiffy or just straight jiffy to lessen the stress, and from jiffy to final pot.

I'm a little hesitant to just toss my hard-to-come-across seeds into a 10L pot of promix in the dead of winter (Southern Hemisphere) and hoping they take.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Peace :peace:bongsmilie

Mate I always use jiffy pellets, and they dont stress a seed germed in paper towel!
Every grow I have done has been:

1. Seeds into wet paper towel, into a clear baggie, into a dvd case and then put in my grow tents upper frame above lights.

2. Expand jiffy pellets (grow tampons!) in a mild root hormone mix.

NEXT STEP VERY IMPORTANT!!!!

3. Once you have your pellets expanded, CUT THE NETTING OFF THE BOTTOM!!!! This allows the taproot direct access to the soil, coco, hydroton or whatever your using to grow in.

4. Plant the jiffy cubes carefully as to not knock out the peat mix, into final pot you will harvest from.

5. Check seeds after 36-48hrs and if they are ready to go, plant into your jiffy cubes which are already in pots.

Simple, failsafe and efficient!!!

Also man, not meaning to be a smarty pants, Auto seeds are not to hard to come across today at all!!!
Im in Australia and get my beans everytime I place an order. Also, nearly all reputable breeders are doing Automatic Varieties of there flagship strains.

Hey Scott, how's it going?

Thank you for the very clear instructions on your method! Sounds great/very similar to what I am already used to! :)
Will definitely go this route. Do you see any reason I shouldn't run all 5 of my autos then, considering my 90x90x185cm space? In the 10L smart pots I had mentioned ^

With this method, why not just plant directly in the soil, why need the jiffy at all?

Bro this is my tiny setup! I got 3 Mephisto Sour Hound plants about ready for harvest, 1 Royal Queen Seeds Auto Diesel that just keeps chunking up about 5 weeks off finish and then 1 x1 week old Ripley Og by Mephisto and 4 x 2 day old Red poison Autos from Sweet Seeds.
Its all about space management and perpetuality.
So thats 9 on the go in a 4 foot wide by 2 foot deep tent that is only 4 foot tall! pumping 600watts hps....20170727_181847.jpg

Sorry bout the light mate!

Each to there own I guess! I just prefer the jiffys incase i dont know whether I want to do dwc or coco.
In the jiffy gives you around a weeks window to make up your mind.
I have found with some germed beans in some soil mixes they can be burned/stunted from day dot. The peat pellet also acts as a buffer zone from those trace nutes in the soil!
