So a while ago I had to shut down my grow (life just got a bit crazy and I just didn't have the time really to keep it going). But now things have chilled out a bit and so I'm starting it back up again, I'm probably going to run my grow in coco with canna coco A/B nutrients just because I know them and my local grow shop stocks it all (the only other option I'm tempted by would be biobizz because yeah my local grow shop also stocks their nutes, they have a bunch of other brands but most are either stupid expensive or obscure enough that I can't find much info on them). If anyone has any suggestions for nutes though I'd love to hear them, the only things I am solidly sticking to with this grow are that I'm growing in coco and that I have to grow in cabs for stealth reasons but otherwise I'm open to ideas on any part of the process.

There are a couple decisions I have to make relatively soon though to get it all going again but first and foremost I need to pick a strain and also (although much less interesting) pick some lights for veg because my old 250W CFL broke at the end of the last cycle I ran. At the moment the strains I'm looking at are:

Blue Dream (Humboldt Seed Organisation)
Jack Herer (Sensi seeds or Greenhouse seeds)
Super Skunk (Sensi Seeds)
Jillybean (TGA Genetics)

Honestly the traits I'm looking for are preferably a more sativa dominant strain with relatively short flower period for a sativa (i.e. 7-8 weeks rather than 10+). I'm not the biggest fan of weed that gives you ridiculous levels of couch lock like I prefer getting baked and doing shit than getting baked and becoming a couch potato but still I'm easily open to suggestions for strains. I'd also prefer to have feminised seed because I'd imagine I'll only be running this set up once (I've got a time frame of about 8/9 months where I'll be able to run it before I have to move again) and so I'd appreciate not having to deal with males, although that being said I would consider normal seeds if I thought the bud would be that much better and/or the traits of it for growing were good for my set up.

With the veg light I'm mainly looking at basic CFL's vs fluorescent tubes, the basic cfl's are obviously cheaper because I already have a reflector and stuff for it it's just that I feel like i'll get much more even coverage with the fluorescent tubes, if anyone has any info on which style of bulb generally gets hotter that'd also be helpful because yeah growing in cabs can get hot af at times lol. If anyone knows of cheap good LEDs i'd also be interested in that but last I heard short of making them yourself it's not easy to get good cheap LEDs.

Anyway if anyone has any ideas or thoughts they would care to share I'd appreciate it!

--TLDR--

I'm starting up growing again and need suggestions for strains and veg lights plus whatever other tips/ideas anyone might have about growing in coco in cabinets.

Those strains are old news. And not the same as they were when developed.

Get off the beaten path...... Look for new and better breeders and their gear.

Bodhi and Connoisseur genetic's are nice place to start.....

So many cutting edge breeders to find over the old school, same old thing guys.

Why are new strains better than the oldies?
I'm not saying you're wrong; just curious. :eyesmoke:

I've got some "oldies". They are "originals", cloned from the first offerings....over years and years. Today's Blueberry is nothing like the one I run.....

There are some "oldies" worth attention. They are chosen by opinion.....

I find I'm still happy with BB, Chem etc. but, I'm really happier with much of the new stuff going around...

The things on his list are ,, boring to me, to be blunt.

I'm not sure how to put it.

I'm really happy with my Old favorite, GHOST OG but, my Platinum Banana OG is simply off the hook....

Thing is, it can be so regional now.....Not to mention that price of the top end gear today. Prohibit's many from pulling the trigger on some of the finest genetic's out there...

@rnint

You brought up TGA.....Many of the strains that other's actually developed, and they gave to Sub to "work". Have been taken back from Mr. TOOL....

You want some of the good stuff he had to give back?

Here's what your needing.

How about something a little more specific, available in seed. It's not so much the high price of some of these strains, it's the gamble. Is a random pick as good as a targeted pick?

@Dr. Who Thanks for all the input mate, I've been looking through the seedbanks you mentioned and yeah it all looks pretty cool. Sorry it took me a while to reply by the way I've been having mad computer problems. Couple questions though if you dont mind me asking, do you have any suggestions for strains from any of the seedbanks you mentioned with a more mental than physical high? Just because as I said I'm not the biggest fan of couch lock weed and yeah I tried looking for info elsewhere but couldnt find anything about what the actual high is like from the bud so if you know any that give you a nice head high without knocking you out that info would be well appreciated. Also was there anything actually wrong with blue dream? Just because I'm thinking at the moment that im probably going to go for 2 strains (one regular and one fem as a back up in case I get a shit ton of males) and theres a nostalgic part of me that wants to grow some blue dream because I used to smoke it a lot, I know it's kinda couch locky but yeah I don't plan on growing tons of it and I kinda just want to know what it's like to grow seeing as I spent so long smoking it haha.

They arent its just that good strains come along all the time and current trends sell seeds, some strong old cup winners would still wipe the floor.
BUT, the problem still comes to those "old strains", not exactly being what they were back when they won those cups. I know, not all of them are that way but as an example; AK-47 and my Blue Berry are good ones!

One of the best sativa's I've run is Super Silver Sour Diesel Haze - Connoisseur Genetic's
Ghost OG is pretty good too but, you say Blue dream is couch locky?
ECSD is another good one - Dr, Greenthumb (same place for Ghost)

That Micky and Quantum kush I linked you too at HGNW is a nice (better then BD) high sativa mix that delivers what your looking for.

Super silver haze is still a good choice. Problem being it's hard to find that "original" style strain. It will turn up in a pheno hunt but, I couldn't tell you how long it may take to find "the one."
I'm sure some else here may have better info on that particular strain.

Good Luck

If i remember correctly the original blueberry was hard to grow and didnt have very big yields :-)

Hmm, Normal to a bit heavy feeder and robust growth in this old pheno of mine. Not tall or overly branched......Good yield, if vegged out nice. Gotta keep the lower area trimmed out. Not the biggest bud structure out there.
