Storing kief (pre-press)

Hi All,

Wow so this is the farthest down the RIU main page we have gotten since joining. Nice to see that we're no longer a main staple in the noob - MJ problem forums -- though we're between full grows, so there are some other reasons beyond newly gained experience keeping us from those forums -- and if you're still with us, here we go...

We have some kief as a result of trimming, curing and grinding. We were thinking about using a half pint wide mouth ball jar for storage until we get to the dry-ice sift. We wouldn't be wrapping the kief in anything just letting it sit in the jar.

It's airtight and would be stored in a dark location. Is this method optimal for kief?

Not sure if it's the best method but I use sift almost exclusively for edibles and keep a perpetual mason jar. Burping here & there when I add fresh material. Cool/dark spot in my cold cellar. Have never noticed/seen any degradation in it. Would be interested to hear of any other thoughts/experience with storing it, have never paid a lot of attention to "best" methods for sift or if there's degradation over time.

I have a 250ml mason jar of keif sitting in my office safe. Have trim to make BhO with and will combine the two to make my "Honey Hash". About 4g of keif to 1g of BHO or other oil.

I put a pie plate that has the oil on it on a dutch oven with simmering water. Fit's good with a bit of a slope. Weigh my kief first as it's a PITA to get the oil out of the plate, weigh it and put it back so just weigh the hash and deduct the weight of the keif I use to know how much oil I had.

I just mix it until it's real stiff and hard to keep folding it over on itself and mashing it down. Will stiffen more after it cools.

That's pretty cool man, I think I might do this. Once in a while I do dabs, but I really like capping bowls with extracts. I would imagine the flavor is off the charts if it's all the same strain.
