strange discoloration

Hi, i'm having some strange discoloration on 2 Northern Lights auto and 1 Jack Herer auto.
They seem to grow alright (9 days since germination), but they have discoloration throughout all the leaves.
The closest thing that i have found that look the same are Variegation (which should be impossible in 3 different plants), and "mosaic virus" (i know...).

They are in soil 20% compost and 10% humus so they should be fed, and around 16 inches from 4 citizen CLU048-1212c4 running at around 37 watts each one.
The only other thing they have in common is water. The tap water in my city has a ph between 7 and 8, but the soil should be a buffer.

I'm attaching some photos, in reality the discoloration is more noticeable.

Any idea? Thanks

@Dr. Who

It is weird that its on two different strains you sprouted. Would be less weird if it was from the same pack of seeds as variegation can appear genetically in high percentages.

is the soil from a bag or did you build it?

did you check your soil ph?
From a bag, it is supposed to be a mix with marijuana in mind. In theory should have the correct ph.

yeah, should be impossible. but that and the "mosaic virus", are the closest things i have found.

so your not adding any fertilizer, right?

if it was on a larger plant and the soil was spent based on appearance I might guess zinc def cuz that's what usually shows as bands or stripes of yellow...

but I really cant imagine how that would be possible in a quality soil and a young plant unless it was a ph issue...

but it sounds like ph issue isn't likely either if its good bag soil

man, I say do nothing for now and see if it gets worse or better on its own
its minor enough
youd hate to do something for the sake of doing something and have it be wrong and create a real problem

post some updated pics in a week and see if the progression gives it away or if it just resolves itself

im not real good at identifying pests

could some type of insect create that?

maybe also hit it with some bug spray to be safe...cant hurt.. maybe some neem or azamax

No, i haven't added anything yet. It has been only 13 days since germination, i was planning to wait a couple days more. What do you think?

I think you are right, better wait and see how they develop. It is easier to correct some def. than an excess.

i haven't seen any bug, the spots and stripes appear with the leaves, and don't seem to spread.

Oh please. Don't start with the stupid "Mosaic" shit! It's not a mosaic - doesn't effect Cannabis!

Now then, with my crabby answer behind us...

The plants are very young, They're still setting roots and it's simply a non-issue. The plant is growing and the roots are trying to "keep up". At a point that's close at hand, they will catch up and things will balance out...

Trust me here. As they get bigger and you start to feed. It will go away.

I gotta ask! Exactly what soil?

Truly cannabis specific? A bagged super soil mix? or Dr. Earth's potting soil in the black and gray bag?

Yeah, i know that this virus is an urban legends, that is why i use " ", but i have to say that it looks exactly like what some attribute to the "virus".

I will wait and observe for now. I'm not in the States, so the availability of material for marijuana is limited.
It is an mix with the standard proportion of compost, humus, peat, pearlite, vermiculite, and sand, at 6.5ph

Hi, about 3 days ago i used some 9-4-8 veg and a root stimulant, both with micro nut, in a mild dosage of around 1/4 the minimal dosage recommendation. using demineralized water ph 5,5-6,0.

I saw some nice improvements in the overall color, with a darker green. But the discolored stripes persist.
I will wait and see, but the new born leaves continue to have the same thing. any idea?
maybe the light are too close, they are about 16".

2 days ago i started to lst the jack at the front, and at the same time i topped the northern at the back without seeing it slow down.
But, how do you see their overall size until now? I was told that autos grow much more quickly, but i don't feel they are any bigger from what i remember my last couple grows where. it is my first time with autos and cobs.

The front jack has 18 days since it sprouted and became airborne, the back northern has 16 days, and the northern at the right 15 days. 20/4 light cycle. about 4 yo 5 levels of what do you think?

thanks

The plants look good, but the soil definitely dry.
How often do you water?
it depends, every 3, 5, 7 days top. i use the finger test. i water when the soil is completely dry between the first and the second knuckle, but if a stuck the whole finger it is still "wet/humid" between the tip and the first knuckle.

i just took a look, and by that standard i should be watering a couple hour from now. the photos are from a moment ago.

Do you think i should be watering more often? i have never seeing sign of underwatering, but when i was more nooby overwatering was a common mistake so i became very conservative in my water and feeding practices.

i'm too cautious, maybe if i am more aggressive i could yield more.

On a mature plant, I would would water every 3 days until runoff in a 3 gal pot, as they drink a lot.NEVER let the soil dry out completely.
I usually figure it out by the weight of the pot, not my finger. After practice you can tell if the pot needs water, by lifting. If it is heavy, no water, if light, add some.

thanks. should i use demineralized water (ph 5,5-6,0) or tap water is fine? i always used filtered tap water, but i ask because, i moved recently and i haven't been able to instal the filter. the tap water in my city is excellent, but it has a little too much chlorine and fluorine.

i never control the ph, but because this discoloration i bought some ph-down, and a ph meter. the ph where i live is 7.8, a little high, so i have been decreasing it to 6.2, is that ok?

ok so on the 9-4-8 fertilizer

if its dry powder fertilizer youll use 5grams per gallon max dose for a full size established plant

if its a liquid then its 5mls per gallon max dose ...for a full size established plant

for those plants id say maybe 3 to 4 mls/grams would be appropriate when or if fertilizer is required

id also add 1/4 tsp Epsom salt per gallon to your feeds

the yellow variegation your getting I still cant put my finger on yet but im very interested because I have some myself and not sure whats up with it... im beginning to wonder if I have a pest, possibly spider mites!

but im not the best with identifying bugs

thanks. good info. applying this regimen once a week?
i had mites in previous grows, and they are always pretty noticeable. and the damage shows like a lot of small yellow/white dots. and i have looked the plants, and haven't found any bug.

Hmmm, 7 days today from your first post.

Shoot us new pics please.
the photos from three posts ago, are from the same day (yesterday). i'm re posting them below. the only change is that they grew a little more.
