Suitcase Grow

Hey all!

I must admit ive been looking on this site for afew months now and have decided to finally get off my arse and start a stealth grow! I just have afew questions if none of you would mind helping me out. Before you say "Search bar" and look through other threads-I have and its been confusing and there are so many different techniques!

Anyway back to the grow...

I live in my own little flat n im wanting to convert my old suitcase into a stealth grow box and grow 1-3 plants.

Now heres the problems I face

1) What wattage bulb would I need to satisfy the plants?
2) Is a fan REALLY necessary? (I would like to keep costs/noise to a minimum)
3) Would it be possible for me to grow an autoflower strain, seed to harvest, using just soil and water?

Any tips along the way would help alot guys!

Im just fed up of paying so much for bud here in the uk and decided I could probably grow better MJ and cheaper!

If you are actually wanting to grow in a suitcase its like trying to grow plants for buds in a PS3 or X-Box 360 outside case. Not gonna happen because they require to much space even for a single plant. Do a PC case micro grow or Rubbermade grow.

I dont have a tape measure or camera but the suitcase is about a 1m in height and is alot bigger than a pc case
Well then you have to worry about how heat resistant it is because the last thing you need is to have a fire or the suitcase to be melted from the heat.

use CFLs and computer fans. should be fine. not sure how much you'll get when you harvest but its worth a shot to try it bro. let me know how it turns out bro. post a few pics

Answer to your questions:

1) Preferred 100 watts per plant (CFL)
2) A couple fans are just as necessary as the bulbs.
3) Plants need to eat as well.

Ahh thanks alot guys, would I be best putting a layer of foil on the inside for reflecting the light? But aye ill get some fans in there aswell :)

If you meen as in tin foil no that is very bad because that can cause hot spots get Mylar. You can get it in 96% reflective so its very good.

First of all, I've seen a highly successful stealth grow inside of a steamer trunk using two HPS lights mounted in its roof and one muffin fan for ventilation.

If people get away with growing inside a PC case, I see no reason why you couldn't grow inside of a conventional suitcase, so long as you were careful with your design. The suitcase, in fact, should be easier than a PC case, since you'll have more internal room to work with.

To answer the actual questions,

1) What wattage bulb would I need to satisfy the plants?
2) Is a fan REALLY necessary? (I would like to keep costs/noise to a minimum)
3) Would it be possible for me to grow an autoflower strain, seed to harvest, using just soil and water?

1. Depends on how big you want the plants to be, but as a rule of thumb figure about 50-70 watts per square foot of floor (ie canopy) space for the plants. Smaller suitcase, obviously, needs less light than a bigger one, etc. If you can afford an LED, that will let you use less overall power and also reduce heating issues considerably, but those are pretty darn pricey at this time.

2. Without a fan, in an enclosed box your plants won't get enough AIR and they won't grow. Unless you are using LEDs *and* your ambient (room) temperature is really low (ie you're growing in an unheated room in the winter), you'll also rapidly overheat your grow space to the point where your plants will die if you don't vent with a fan. So yes, you'll need a fan. If noise is an issue, find a quiet fan, and/or bury it inside your box to partially muffle its sound.

3. Of course you can take an autoflower plant through harvest in just soil and water. I'd suggest a little added fertilizer ("nutrients"), but with the proper soil mix you could do fine without any.

4. Reflective mylar plastic sheeting is generally considered superior to aluminum foil for reflectivity, but you could use AL foil if that's all you had, and its still a lot better than nothing. Bright white matte paint is also a reasonable alternative.

Not trying to be a dick or flaming or anything but I'm tired of seeing these "You can't do that" posts. Where would we all be if everybody said that all of the time? Give advice to try to make it work but don't tell anyone they "can't" do something unless it really is a fact that it's impossible. Like growing a plant in still water or some shit like that.
