I know this has probably been asked but I couldn't seem to find it....

Can I use my tap water for my plants?
I know you have to let it sit open to let the chlorine evaporte - how long does this take?
How do you tell if you have other chemicals like salt in it that are not good for your plants?

Chlorine needs about 24 hours to evaporate. I can't say whether it's a good idea to use your tap water because I don't know what's in it. My tap water is pretty bad, so I decided to get a RO system. My tap water is something like 500 PPM. As long as yours is less than 200 you should be fine. Of course, you'll need to get a PPM meter or take a sample somewhere for analysis.

Fill gallons or whatever you plan on keeping your water in and let it sit for 24 hours then use. PH it for best results.
I use spring water from the store for a neutral ph of 7.

You said "Really? worked out fine for me. I thought the ph for soil was supposed to be 6.0 - 6.8?"
And where does 7 fall into between 6 and 6.8? It doesnt.
Im not going to argue with you. If it worked for you then great.

What is pH, and what do the terms acidic and alkaline mean?
The acidity or alkalinity of the soil is measured by pH (potential Hydrogen ions). Basically it's a measure of the amount of lime (calcium) contained in your soil, and the type of soil that you have. A soil with a pH lower than 7.0 is an acidic soil and one with a pH higher than 7.0 is considered to be alkaline. A ph of 7.0 is neutral...

And i belive i was using like miracle grow potting mix which sucks..and is kinda acidic, so even according to seemorebuds book i should use water adjusted to 7.4 even..to balance out the acidity of the mg. :-| Someone other than that guy correct me if im wrong because i very well MAY be..
