What would be the minimum vertical footprint that the bar lamps take up if they were hung on the highest setting? I have only 4 ft of vertical space I'm trying to realistically plan how much vertical plant space I will have after leaving at least 12 inches from the canopy. I typically do short veg and lst to manage height restrictions. Would the new square type lamp take up less vert space?

They all provide the most light at 14-16 inches above canopy. Total including lamp and head space about 2 feet for bar lamps and the T22. The bars have removable reflectors so about 18 inches total without them would give you 2.5 feet of space for pots and plants.

So what current would you prefer to use if building a rig with Vero29C? I want to offer 1050ma drivers but am also considering 1400ma and 700ma. The first two are obvious choices and 1050 will put the efficiency just above 50%. 700ma over 55% but I'm not sure if they will sell.

Anyway, DIY kits are in the works. Heatsinks will be passive and on the large size especially for 1050ma.
I'll be offering potentiometers that are guaranteed to push the drivers to 100% without an additional resistor.
Potentiometers will be offered with and without pigtails.
Light engines will come solderless/reflectorless and solder required -w- reflectors.
So it will be possible to build a lamp without soldering.
Still undecided on whether to offer pre-soldered engines. Vero 29 is so easy to solder I don't think anyone would have issues doing it.

Ideas on DIY parts/tools are welcome. I'm trying to keep things simple but in addition to light engines, frames and drivers I plan on having 20 and 14 awg hook up wire, wire connectors, ring connectors, and power cords, basically everything to complete the AC and DC circuits.

I'm partial to 3000K 90CRI at the moment but yes on the 500ma current.... one per foot. Or 700ma one per foot so it can be turned up to 11. That's what I had in mind with the T22. I'd be happy with 500ma one per foot though. It's interesting to consider that the retail cost of a +1200 PPFD rig costs less than the retail cost of an 800 PPFD rig from 2-3 years ago. It's worth doing IMO if there are space restrictions. Without space restrictions 1 Vero29 per foot at 500ma is kinda silly but I'd do it anyway :)

I don't anticipate 700/500ma being a good current for the DIY shop but I might throw a few low current drivers in there after the initial launch and see what happens.

If all goes well I'll start offering Tasty bundles sometime next week. The design process has finished so back in the shop to cut and drill metal for the next few days.

I'm throwing in some 500ma drivers to see if anyone wants them :) When you look at the cost over 5 years at 12 cents per KwH it's basically a break even situation, 500, 700, 1050, 1400 it all comes out about the same minus AC cost which can give low current an edge based on climate/location. If the cost is much over 12 cents it's starts to look even better for low current. I know people want a good deal up front though so I'm going to try everything between 500 and 1400ma.

Current news is that I've decided to start the DIY venture by offering components only. Frames will come at a later time but I will be offering everything but the frame at some point this week. That will include hardware and hanging items including custom steel lanyards along with a variety of electrical components.

The DIY section of the website is now open for business. I'm offering Vero 29C and 29B light engines mounted to 150mm splayed pin fin heat sinks. I have some 1400ma drivers in stock and more on the way... hoping people will consider the 1050 current for the C version which is what I would use for a "budget" build. It will keep total system efficiency right at 50% and effectively make the sinks larger than necessary.

There are 4 categories, engines, drivers, hardware (will be stocking more items soon), and electrical components; wagos, pots, wire, etc. I'll likely add more K/CRI options depending on what people request. Pots come with pigtails by request, no extra charge. 120k ohm and hitting 100% on every driver. I'd like to source some 60k ohm pots but have had trouble finding them. Lanyards are available to reduce the number of ratchet hangers needed. If you build a frame with lanyards you will need to insure the lamp is balanced OR that the lanyards are long enough to negate the weight distribution.

Anyway, any comments are welcome. If there are other items anyone would like to see stocked I'm open to suggestions.

Some news.

The T22 price has been reduced from $420 to $360.

Frames will be showing up soon. I've got a frame for 3x3' and MxM areas planned out, single frame with a couple drive currents to choose from. A prototype has been built and I'll be releasing PAR footprints for it when they are available. I will also have solutions for 4x4' and 5x5' but am still mulling over the design options. T33 kits should be available in the next week or two. They will be available as solder and solderless (Vero 29 SE) options. Everything necessary to dim, hang and plug them in will be included in the kit and can be assembled with a screw driver and wrench in 30-60 minutes.

The T22 is now available as a kit. It comes with everything needed to assemble the finished lamp. It is priced at $310. A $50 dollar discount over the retail product. With a little work you can fill out a 4x4 tent for $1240 plus shipping with:

725 output watts at 56% efficiency...

Which produces 405 PAR watts. This is 15 PAR watts less than a 1000w DE bulb.

Total wattage consumed from the wall: 824 watts.

For $620 you can fill a 2x4 with the same intensity you would get from a DE bulb.
For $310 you can fill a 2x2 with the same intensity you would get from a DE bulb.

4 of them will also provide 1000w DE performance in a 5x5 tent.

The T33 frames will be available in a couple days. I want to get PAR maps done before I put them on the website and my par sensor is borrowed at the moment but thought I would share some pics. They can be fitted with an HLG-320H-C1050 or two HLG-185H-C1400s so 300w version at 51% efficient and 400w version at 48% efficient. I've decided not to offer kits as there are other variables and it seems better to let the customer pick out the parts they want. The frames will come with the hardware to put them together and hanging hardware. They come drilled for the 150mm pin fin light engines found on the website.

Thanks. They should be a good value. I'll put all the parts I would use in the cart and come up with some general price estimates.

One issue I have is a lack of 60k ohm pots which would be ideal for wiring two drivers together. I may scramble and add some 50k ohm pots and 10k resistors to the website. There are two pot holes on the frame but it's not ideal. I considered using HLG-480s but a couple 185s cost less, run a little cooler and have the same efficiency so it seemed like the better option.

I don't offer shipping to Brazil because I don't have a line on decent international rates. I've had customers use a 3rd party shipping company that picks the package up in New York and ships from there.

My PAR meter is still being borrowed but I hope to have it back in the next day or so. I'll post par maps as soon as I can make them. Basic output information is provided on the product page.

T33 using 300 watts provides 715 PPF
T33 using 400 watts provides 912 PPF

I'm also cooking up a higher efficiency DIY solution for 2x4' (and 4x4') areas. I'll have more info on that in the next couple weeks but I can say the output efficiency will be above 3 umol/j and Tasty will again be pushing the envelope.

I've placed all the components needed for the T33 300w version in the shopping cart. Total comes to $420.25 :)

That's with reflectors. The price drops to $400 if Vero SE light engines are used.

400w version is $6 more, or $14 more if two pots are used.
