Tempted to go back to Coco

Since I've gone to LED growing I've had some def/lockout issues and I know with coco I can control what goes on in the root zone better and/or quicker. Only thing is when I ran coco before, my flowers seemed to lack in the smell and taste department as compared to soil.

It also seems like the quality of FFOF has taken a dump as of recent

I'm growing in coco as well and notice what your talking about as far as smell goes. I'm almost 5 weeks into flower and don't have any scent at all. But I do love the inert medium having complete control. Iwas tthinking of adding some molasses or nectar or ect for more flavor and scent.

I'm definitely going to stay tune d in for some insite on this as well.

What brand of coco are you using?

Are you guys hanging the whole plant when you dry or just branches or wet trimming? Dry trimmings the way to go for smell.

I've never hung the whole plant, just cut branches and take off large fan leaves and then hang. What is dry trimming?

I've had good results in the past with Botanicare Slacker Aeration coco, was thinking about trying House and Garden or Fox Farm's Coco Loco

When you leave the fan leaves and trim after drying (I believe)

Me too, its been 83 days since i last had some..but ill manage i guess. Alot of coffee these days

Ahhhh....see? Youll get better smell from a dry trim and hang on the whole plant. And to the guy above aking what it is.....
Cut the plant down just before lights on or at lights on. Then rip all the fan leaves and deep seeded sugar leaves off while shes hanging. Make sure that the crispy brown ones come out at this point because if they recced theyre lost and thats poor quality.
I run a humidifier usually but i dry in a larger room, i like to keep my humidity up around 60 if i can. Usually it takes about seven to ten days for a whole plant to dry this way, and as we all know you need more than a two or three day dry to get a good smell. Then when shes dry enough to come off, like the branches are snapping but not too dry, you can start trimming. Just snip off a branch and manicure and pop the buds off as you go. Believe it or not its faster than wet trimming, but more importantly you get more dry weight, and a better smell. When you wet trim theres lots of stuff thats covered in tricombs that gets cut off and with a dry trim that stuff curls around the bud and becomes part of it, a good part of it. Because when it does it seems like it traps in the smell. I used to run a trimpro rotor until i realized that hanging the whole plant is the best and only way to go. Just watch in the later hanging days that the humidifier doesnt run out of water! They can go from almost dry to crisp in only a few hours without that humidity.

Well most deff a good cure always brings out the potential best aroma, but I'm taking about the growing substrate itself, soil vs coco. It's a hard toss up right now but I'm tired of the pH swings in FFOF as well.

I never wet trim, always dry as it seems easier to get my fiskars in the bud to reach leaf stems easier. I'm going to try the whole plant drying process at the end of this run.

I have never done soil. I have only ever used coco so I can't speak on another way

I love how coco is for the roots.
I'm just with oddjob and want better smell. .

I am going to try a dry trim... I'm not going to hang the whole plant...cause I want to reveg...we'll see.

I gave up on Ocean Forest over a yr back. It was way to inconsistent. Since then I've been using happy frog.
So you want the soil taste but the kick and control of hydro. You can try what I do. I veg in 2 qt's soil then transplant into hempy, either coco or perlite for flower. Growth is great, flavor is good.

Hmmmmm....thats a good Idea...never would have thought about that.

I have good genetics, that is of utmost importance. With that said....

I found using humic/folic acids increased flavor and aroma in my coco plants.
Using BioAg Ful-Power with Growmore seaweed Extract increased flavor and aroma tremendously. Adding sweat notes to smell and taste.
When I started using Progress Earth Kelp (pricey stuff by the way!) I had more of an earthy organic taste, more complex and well suited for kush type strains. Sulpher is the main contribution to add into coco for more robust flavor and aroma.

I now use a combination of different types of humic/fulvic acids from BioAg. Some powered, some liquid, and some molasses blends, homemade and store bought.

Its all about finding what works for YOU! Good Luck!!!!!

The ONE time I did that for a comparison over wet trim and hang individual colas....I left it with a fan and exhaust for 2 days came back and the shit stank of ammonia or something horrid... it was 1/5 of my harvest but I threw it away.....
It smelt almost rancid !
