The failure of the drug war ...

In England, marijuana has already been de-classified as a class C drug. Believe me when I tell you that it makes hardly any difference at all. Not looking as much time if you get caught... but that's about it. It really feels to me as though nothing has changed. It's still illegal, just not as much so...

Politicians have played hard-nosed on the drug issue because they believed that taking that stance would make them appear "tough on crime." Their belief is/was that passing more laws and harsher penalties against drug use would get them votes. That needs to be turned around. And ... it is being turned around in many states here in the U.S. and other countries as well. Medical MJ was the nose under the tent. Keep an eye on Nevada on November 7th ... legalized pot is on the ballot.

Politicians are for the most part just a reflection of the population in general. Most of them have smoked mj and some are probably still smoking it. Again ... the best way is to make them believe that votes won't be coming their way unless they change their positions.

5 days till the Nev. electorate decide, yea or nay on Pot! I think it's pretty close, with the police oriented folks voting nay and the rest of us voting yea, Lot of republican assholes in Nevada, and they're mostly police oriented!

I can hardly wait to see the Nevada results. This is a REAL big deal for the entire nation. If passed, its going to be real interesting to see the reaction of the Feds.

The voters turned it down last time,(2 years ago) so we'll see! Nevada is pretty independent from the federal govt., they've been in the Yucca Mtn. fight for 15 years. I've heard it defined as: "The United State Of Nevada". We have a bush clone for a republican senator, Ensign, And my old school mate, Harry Reid, (he was 2 years ahead of me in Basic High in Henderson Nv.) whom is always in a fight with Bush. This leads to a stalemate for Nv. as one votes left and the other right, so basically Nevadas votes in the senate
cancel each other out, this puts Nevada in a weak position, If Jack Carter gets elected (slim Chance), we would have some power in the senate. As far as Federal intervention, It would depend on how much face the feds would like to save. I say, Give them Yucca mountain, Charge the hell out of depositors, and develop a safe route around the populated areas for the waste. We know there are no absolutely safe routes or transportation, but make it pallitable for Nevadans. Maybe the feds would look the other way on the pot issue, the problem is, our population is already exploding and if pot is legal, a lot of potheads will want to move here also. (might be a good place for a real estate man)!

To be honest I can really see America following suit in regards to cannabis declassification and medical usage.

To say that most politicians have smoked cannabis is true, but I'd say only in the past tense. Once they go public and are elite politicians they can not risk getting caught smoking drugs... stinking out the white house with some ak47 would set alarm bells ringing and the press would have a field day. Wait, I'm basically an ex smoker, I'm waiting for my white widow to come alive, (I toke up when the Arthritus gets flaired up). and I voted for legalizing it, in fact I've voted for legalizing it every time it's been on any ballot where ever I've lived, and I basically didn't smoke for 15 years! I'll admit that I didn't and don't hang out with potheads (after I quit) as I'm an old fart and can't stand most of their blithering idiocy, like "wow man I'm stoned" etc. But It's guys like me that go to the polls and vote that used to smoke it up and know how basically harmless it is, that will be the vanguard of legalization! I'm sorry that your country doesn't let you vote on such issues (how does that work in the UK anyway) but If it becomes legal over here, It will be because of guys like me that voted, not some pothead that can't get off the couch! And I'm definently not for under 18 smokers as it impairs learning, I watched my little brothers smoke from age 7-10 on, and they were definently learning disabled! I was 10 years older than my oldest younger brother and it was him that turned me on!
