The Fairness Doctrine ...

The neo-cons are running out of friends, yes. Paleoconservatives are doing fine (as fine as you could expect), and conservative Democrats here in places like Alabama are still running things.
Are you sure Conservative and democrat belongs in the same sentence, if so, maybe we have some things in common. I am fiscally conservative when it comes to federal spending. I also see much need for oversight in the military budgets. I also believe we need to eliminate private industry from the military (Haliburton Etc.) The temptation for corruption is too great. Where we will probably separate is on social programs, as most conservatives have plenty of money and think like I've got mine, Fuck you.,I'm for single payer medical, works rather well in a few countries, like France for example, and I'm for giving people a hand up, not a hand out. I'm against all wars, as I believe in diplomacy first, combat last. I also welcome you to the site and hope you to be an open minded person with interesting opinions. I hope you are not filled with the hate of ignorance that has been exibited extensively on this forum.

In Alabama Democrats control the State House and Senate. Democrats have been in control here a long time, probably since like the 1870's. They aren't like the national Democrats though. Most people not in the South don't know about this stuff, and assume Republican = conservative and Democrat = liberal. True liberals can't really get elected in Alabama unless they are in a heavily black area (and usually are black themselves), but even then can't be too far left. We are Democrat-controlled but are known for having the most conservative state government.

As for myself, I think much of the federal government should be disbanded outright (Department of Agriculture, Education, Housing and Urban Development, the DEA, FBI, etc.) and most of the power should be given back to the states. The federal government should be in the business of protecting citizens from foreign threats and protecting our Constitutional rights and civil liberties by mandate to the states. I think drug use, prostitution, and any other 'victimless crime' should be legalized. They should basically add a Constitutional amendment for such a thing, to guarantee our right to do what we want as long as we aren't hurting others. That is, in my mind, an essential right. What's amazing is that in Alabama you could go to prison for smoking weed but the state government CONTROLS the sale and distribution of liquor. They contribute to countless alcohol-related deaths every year and throw people in prison for getting high while sitting around watching South Park.

Where I disagree with many other libertarians is on immigration and illegal immigration. I don't believe in open borders and I couldn't care less about the "rights" of illegal immigrants. I care about the rights of American citizens, and what happens in other countries or to the citizens of other countries is none of my concern.

I pretty much agree with you on every issue. I am also very concerned with the illegal immigration problem in my state (Nevada). We are basically overwhelmed with the social burden imposed on us by these intruders. Sanctions against employers is the only way to get them out. At my wifes work, they have an excellent mechanic that is illegal and they know it, but will not make any move to out him as he works cheaper and harder and basically makes the owner more money. If the owner knew he would face a fine of say 10,000 bucks for every illegal, I'm pretty sure he would send him packing. If the job market for illegals drys up, they will leave, no need for a fence. The enforcement needs to start at the local levels with random checks and immediate fines. Once the word gets out at the BBB, there will be a huge lay-off of suspected illegals and the exodus can begin. Let me state here that I hold no prejudice towards persons of latin decent, I just feel that the illegals need to go back to their country and try and make it better, And apply for an immigrant visa (green card), and by doing so, it would make our country better.

Hey I wrote out a response to this and clicked 'Submit reply' but it had an error so I went back and it was gone. I'm not going to take the time to do it again because it was a few paragraphs. That is the second time it has happened.

So was it for or against my post, are we adversarial or compatriots?

I was just mentioning how I lived in southern California so I know what you mean about illegals, and how the government is usurping power so that localized governments can't enforce immigration laws. The Feds don't want the laws enforced, so they don't want states and cities to do it either.
