"The Organism" Hammond Organ stealth cab

Hey RIU, been reading and researching for awhile and deciding to post here looking for some advice/ideas.

I have a shitty Hammond Organ that has been floating around the house for a few years that has been used as a drinks coaster and jammed on occasionally that now just sits in my room gathering dust. It no longer worked for whatever reason (probably the litres of beer it drank) so I decided to convert it to a grow cab....should be very unique and interesting.

My carpentry and DIY skills are not the problem, its my total lack of growing knowledge that is. My next major and urgent purchase is the lighting system I will use, Im leaning heavily towards LED and even moreso a DIY LED panel, although I can't say "money is no object" and am able to afford whatever lighting system would be the optimal for this setup as it is only 310mm(W) x 1050mm(L) x 650mm(H), or 12' x 41' x 26' for imperial users.

So far I have set up the majority of the cab using the guides found here.

-I have made 2 passive intakes with a diy light trap in the cab that work well after testing using the hole where the foot pedal originally was for the organ. The larger foot pedal on its own to the right.

- Gutted the inside of it and relined it with plywood I get from work for free.

- Then sealed all the joins to stop light/air leaks and lined the wall with diamond Mylar

-Installed the power board, DIY ghetto inline exhaust fan and ducting system and set timers

Please excuse the low quality pictures, its night time and my bedroom lighting is shitty and I only have my phone for a camera.

So I am have ordered and received my seeds from Herbies, I ordered a Feminised Custard Cream and a Feminised Strawberry cough seed and received free 2 x Kerala/Skunk and 1 x feminised Northern Lights/Skunk. I have chosen to use the NL x Skunk and one of the Kerala for this grow as I realise I will be quite shit first time round and want to use the proper seeds next round once my cab and skills are more dialled in.

I will be growing in a coco/perlite medium hempy bucket style 2 plant scrog using CANNA coco nutrients.

I have place 2 of the seeds in Jiffy pellets i soaked in a little cherry tomato punnet upside for a humidity dome last night so hopefully the show face tomorrow and this Organ grow can begin, it will be known affectionately as "The Oragism".

So finally I really need your guys advice on my lighting situation and need to decide within the next couple days, it boils down to DIY LED vs LED vs HPS and Im leaning heavily towards LED as all the benefits are perfect for me and the DIY route is the choice I want. I will be ordering top bin cree LEDs and have pondered COB LEDs but have flooded my brain with so many threads and what not I can't decide, if someone could just more or less tell me you need 40w of 3w crees, 27 of 2700k, 9 5000k and 4 royal blue or something to that effect Id just put my order in right away. Please help me for this step and I'll update as often as I can.

Thanks for reading, enjoy.

Well I can't really recommend anything since I'm only experienced with CFLs, but if you know your way around electronics and can build your own LED panels, that would save you some of the initial investment (The cost of a store bought panel or HPS). plus LED is electricity bill friendly. It's also way cooler than HPS so that will help you with maintaining proper temps inside the grow space. Only thing that might be a problem is height. LEDs tend to bleach the plants if they are too close to them. You will need to consult with an experienced LED grower to figure out if you've got enough vertical space to run them safely.

Anyway, this looks interesting, love the creativity. I'm here for the journey. Good luck!

Btw, sometimes they give out awesome freebies so you might be surprised at the end.

K I just ordered a new 80 watt hans panel as after organising a parts list I noticed I could only save around $80 and would spend around 4-5 hours making it with chance of errors and what not so for $315 with the shipping seemed ok, then I could build the other DIY LED panel in preparation for the second grow and probably put the hans in the the veg cab I am planning for the next grow after I improve my growing skills.

-Anyway, seeds broke ground last night so I will just be having them under a couple CFL till my panel arrives

Hope you enjoy your panel, that's what I like about led, there always seems to be room for more. As for recommendations all I can say is I got a panel then got side lighting to increase power as desired, and for spectrum I've got blue, red,uv,ir and white which feels pretty complete but that's pretty much just preference

Yeh the hans panel seems like a good starting point for lighting, I'll improve upon during/after this grow but its nice to just be able to unbox and plug it in which will be good timing for my plants, I'll keep researching about DIY panels throughout the grow and make sure I buy quality things and allow the time to make it well.

Cheers for the input BLaKsmith
