I think they sense (or know) that craft growers will be part of legalization and they want to put as much of their competition under contract as possible before then. Name another industry where Ottawa controls who or even if someone can participate, cannabis will be no different.

"Streaming" happens in many industries. They are pre buying your crop at a set rate. It will attract many people, get money now for your build and your future crop is already sold.

Share cropping isn't new either. A lot of the world is fed by share croppers. It's a very profitable model. You own the land, someone else farms it, you charge them rent and for supplies, and you take 95% of the crop with little additional cost. If they complain, toss them in the mud and get the next starving family.

When it comes to food sure sharecropping works. People NEED food to live as its an essential for life. When it comes to cannabis no. At least not in the manner mentioned here. A patient co op maybe. But when maximizing already astronomical profits even further are the sole purpose then NO. Once you sign that dotted line and they say jump, the only answer you have is how high.

Anyone with millions offering to "help" are only doing so to benefit themselves in the long run

Uhmm, that was sarcasm. I wasn't advocating sharecropping. Quite the opposite. Sharecropping doesn't work for the farmers. It's a form of slavery.

As a high tech sharecropper, I really don't like the inverted triangle where all the profit goes to the top and the workers are commodities to be used up and discarded.
