Thrips Larva - Mosquito dunk or bits?

Hello,

We have a little thrips problem since we transplanted some veggies near our crop. Is there a difference between mosquito bits and dunks to use while watering to kill larva? Is bits more easy to use for that task?

Thanks for the help

the dunks are like little donuts, generally they are used to throw in ponds or standing water. the bits work great!!! i just sprinkle it evenly around the base of the stalk before watering. i do this once a week and my gnat problem is gone. If you can't find the bits you can get the dunks and put them in a baggy and smash em up with a hammer.

Edit: I used the 3X5 yellow sticky cards for the adults, put them on the floor in front of my pots and along the wall. the mosquito bits wont kill adults but they will die off eventually, if you dont have the sticky cards fill a tupperware container with water and dishsoap and stir it up from time to time. :-)

If they are still in the lava stage, I would simply use Dawn dish soap and cold water. A sharp spray to the undersides of the leaves should dislodge most of them. You can also introduce lady bugs to feed on them. If the lady bugs wont' stay or if that's simply not practical, a third option I'd try would be to use a horticultural oil. You could use pretty much any highly refined oil, but personally I'd go with one or more of the followings: hemp oil, extra virgin olive oil, soybean oil, tea tree oil, sesame seed oil, neem oil, or even fish oil. Some people even add in hot peppers, which is effective, but I hate how unpredictable capsicum can be. It absorbs into the plant and remains there for weeks. Not fun if you or your customers plan on making editable.

Tea tree, sesame, and neem have the most insect repellent properties. While hemp will naturally have the least unpleasant odor. In theory you could also use cannabis oil, but that's just not practical for most people. But boy would it be effective. :)

You can also add Yucca extract (the same stuff Advanced Nutrients uses in Wet Betty) as a natural and organic wetting agent if your not comfortable with Dawn dish soap. Sticky traps use some pretty harsh poisons. Most people don't think of them as dangerous but look into them. They are really nasty and I would avoid them.
