Thrips?

I found a single thrip on my sprout. I was wonderin if there are more under the soil eating at the roots? Is that what they like to do? And if so how can I kill them?

If it is just one hire a ladybug.
For real though, you may have eggs or pupae in the soil but they cause damage after they emerge by sucking chlorophyll out of the leaves through small holes on the underside. You will see small white or silver spots on top of the leaves. Just keep an eye on it for now. It may be a loner.
You can control them with ladybugs at this point or neem oil if it gets worse. If it gets worse yet, there is Azamax or Conserve.
Growers in the Netherlands have discovered that 3 potted garlic plants per 30 sf of grow area will repel them.
You may want to find out where they are coming from. In the springtime they are quite mobile and fly or drift with the wind to find new host plants. If you have a opening from outside they will damn sure find it.
I have had several grows with thrips. They don't kill the plants unless you totally ignore them but they can slow them down quite a bit.
Good luck
