Timber CXB400R, 3 X 3, TGA Subcool Mothertongue, 5 gallon soil

Started off popping four different strains -all regular photoperiod seeds from various vendors....Three of the four turned out male this run, unfortunately. The only seed to turn out female was "Mothertongue" by TGA Subcool.

So, I decided to make this grow more of an experiment. I decided to try out the "Gas Lantern Technique" for the vegging period...Decided to do some heavy topping and super-cropping and also incorporated a scrog net. Additionally, I used the "Diminished Lighting Schedule" for the flowering period. Oh...and I used Smartpots for the first time...

I have been attempting to load these pics for awhile now...but there was always some kind of problem with transferring the pictures from my phone and then the recent website problems...Better late than never, I guess!

Let's get started....

Ok, so I sprouted the seeds on September 24th and did the Solo cup thing for a couple weeks and then they went into 1 gallon pots...The strains are (were) "Twizzler" by G.A.S., Dark Star by T.H. Seeds, Hash Bar OG by Archive Seeds and Mothertongue by TGA Subsoil/Jinxproof...

I decided to place one plant under each of the four emitters on the CXB400R fixture and then used the dimmer...

Saw a few gnats flying around...must have been in the soil mix...which was a combination of various bag soils that I had plus some perlite, rice hulls and worm castings...

Plants started to show pre flowers...The Dark Star was first to show...I was almost going to cull it right away...But then I decided to use it to practice some super cropping techniques to see how far I could push branch bending! You can kinda see it in the back left....poor guy! :)

Meanwhile, the other three plants were all sizing up to be females...in my mind...so I kept in denial a bit and let them grow out....but when there was no denying it...males!....I culled them. They looked good, too...Was tempted to try a bit of pollination...but couldn't for various reasons this run...So, jumping ahead a week or so, this was the remaining plant, my only girl....the Mothertongue...topped twice and stage #1 super cropped...

I had a 7 gallon garden pot and a 5 gallon Smart Pot...Decided to use the Smart Pot this time...really liked the way they drained fast and dried out evenly. I will use them again...

Each time I bent back the branches, the plant took awhile longer to rebound. But each time it came back, it came back stronger! I am now a big believer in super cropping...This plant seemed to love it!

The Timber CXB400R is an elegant fixture. I finally have it cranked up to full power here and the scrog net n place...

The second pic shows some Timber prototype 660nm Osram Olsen bars that I get to play with!

Spreading out nicely! No ill-effects from any of the Gas Lantern/Diminished lighting schedule.

Here's how things were hung...I didn't really know how t place the red bars so I just ran them as pontoons at each side...I wasn't sure how much red they were pumping out at 12 watts per bar...because it didn't really register with the brightness of the CXBs burning at full blast....So I turned off the CXB400R for a second and....wow! a LOT of red!!!

Pulled off some shade leaves in preparation for the coming harvest! This is at around 8 weeks and at the 9 hours on/15 off stage of the DLS.

After doing some reading about this technique that some other growers tried and had success, I decided to replace the CXB400R fixture with my old MH light bulb fixture (no glass lens) to give the plants a ripening-blast of UV for the last couple weeks before harvest...thus the wavy lines in the photo ...sorry about that! :)
