Too dry??

Hey, my first harvest was drying for a week and a day at 20C and on Monday night it smoked really well and tasted good (the stalks virtually snapped when broken), so thought it was time to move on to jars, which I did the following afternoon... when I came to sample a bud last night it smoked well (i.e. it was dry), but it was the roughest/harshest smoke I have ever had... only had half a spliff and my throat is still a bit sore today... how could it all go wrong so quickly, can anyone explain this and what should I do with it now?
currently it is still in the jar but I have added a few leaves to induce moisture... I'm not entirely sure whether it is too dry or if there is another explanation for the harshness... please help as I'm confused...

((fortunately my other 4 plants are less mature and yet to harvest, so I have a chance to get the drying just right with those))

pics attached of bud and buds in jar, now with leaves (and one of the other plants yet to harvest)

cheers, I think maybe I will try the potato... I was trying to do everything by the book with this dry, but I guess I did just leave it out too long... can't think of any other explanation as to why it was so rough... but so good the day before...

It's in the jar with leaves and potato... I guess 5hrs isn't long enough but it seems a bit moister but still just as harsh to smoke... bit worried it's all a write-off though... and it was so good on Monday... still can't help thinking that there is some other reason for the harshness... I mean even the sawdust at the end of a bought bag isn't this harsh... any ideas?

ok... well I've switched... but guys I'm still not sure that it's just because it's dry... like I said before... rougher than the dry bits in the bottom of an old bag... perhaps simply a week or two curing will fix it... but if so there is still the issue of why it was good one night and bad the next (after jarring)... I have given it a lot of thought and still not sure... has anybody got any ideas about that?

First of all 20c for drying room is way to hot, to dry right, 8 days is a good time but you need cooler drying temp, they need like 16 c max, absolute max and a real dark room..hang em upside down....takes me ten days.

yeah I think I read FDDs too late and read other wrong advice about drying from other threads... I will keep the next batch drying in a cool place for 8 days, but keep an eye on it and make sure its still a bit moist for the jars... I think with this lot I'll see what it's like after a week in the jar with the leaves to hydrate, maybe some orange peel too and if it's still shit, I'll make some cannabutter with it...

This stuff I had the trouble with still tastes shit... and I'm sure the high is compromised too... it's not pleasant... I think I jarred it too early and as I've read in another post, it went "Sour", it's very dry again now but just harsh and bitter and crap, so a write off...

I think I should have stuck to the definite snapping (including snap sound) of stalks and let it get really dry before curing... which is what I am planning to do with the next lot...

Has anybody else jarred too early and had this problem...? it's not like the buds seem moldy at all... just harsh to smoke and the fragrance isn't there

you did somthing wrong if the buds became dry after jarring to early, i would imangine them to still be moist.

hey blazeonE, yeah, to be honest I don't know what went wrong... all i know is that it was fubar, tasted so wrong after that day in the jar and didn't sort itself out... I was kind of suspecting mold or something like that too, but really I have no idea... it was hard throwing it away as the buds "looked" good... anyway, I have second chance with 4/5's of my plants which were harvested on sunday and are now drying... till they are very utterly dry...

that is a shame because they did look so good, very chrystally. they did have a darker color to them. did you flush them well before harvest. just wondering because of possible lingering remnants of nutes.

yeah, they were very well flushed, infact they had no nutes for about 4 weeks before harvesting... I'll right it off to experience... and hope the next lot goes better... cheers

yeah man i thinks it over dryed. for me it mess like 7 days MAX is good enough before jars. you want the stems to still be a little flimsy when you put them into jars.. but that ganja does look nice :)

I put mine in jars after 5 days and it smells and tastes fine. Can't wait til my second plant cures for a couple weeks.
To dry try a little Cilantro in your jars. It really spices it up. Tastes great. Don't give up until you try adding moisture. Might be best if you add a little at a time. You know, a few hours in the jar then take it out over night then add some more.

BE PATIENT ... Might just need more curing. I find that weed gets sweeter everyday and rushing the smoke only makes you smoke weed that's not as sweet as it could be.

I wouldn't much like smoking weed from a plant thats only hung about and not been jarred for up to a week.

I wish you luck my friend.
