Topdress Stonington blend plant food

Hey guys.
I've got two mother of berry girls in 5 gallon pots of promix bx mixed with some worm casting and a little dolomite. I was using biobizz but I am not a fan to be honest. My grow shop guy said I could use Stonington blend and top dress with my waterings and that would supply everything they need in veg. They have been suffering from what looked like magnesium deficiency with the biobizz. Is the grow shop guy correct in telling me this will keep plants healthy through veg phase. And if so how much should I top dress with since they are already in the 5 gallon pots. Here is a pic
Thanks for any and all help, much appreciated

Had to google it but yeah I'd say it would take care of you in veg and flower.

Magnesium deficiency is common in container gardening. Get a bag of epsom salts at the pharmacy or grocery store (nonscented). If ever a mag def is seen, 1tbsp per gallon of water.

Thanks rastaroy. I had been seeing what looked like magnesium deficiency last week. I ended up using a foilar spray with some Epson salts in water. It appeared to have helped as it didn't continue spreading the next day.

Are they recommending using it as a top dress or as your soil? Ok nevermind. It wouldn't hurt as a top dress but I think it is made to be non amended.

Stonington blend is Coast of Maine's "water only" "Super soil" mix specifically designed for cannabis.
I think you could find a better price than this though but I havent heard anything bad about it.

Hey naturalfarmer thanks for the help. I didn't get the actual soil. I should have specified in description as I did in title. I got the plant food. It is a small bag of food. It's a mix of lobster, kelp, worm castings and such. Because my plants are already in 5 gallon pots I figured top dressing was my best bet.

I ended up putting 2tbs of it in each pot and then watered. So I'll See how they respond to it

I know pre flowers are normal as I'm 7 weeks into veg. But I notice on my lower branches that the growth seems very tight and almost looks like it may have hermied because all the pistils in such a small area. Do red pistols in veg always mean a plant was pollinated? I may just be paranoid cause I've had hermies before and it was not enjoyable at all. What do you guys think? Is that little pointy thing In the middle look like a sack forming or is that the start of a branch.
Second pic see how it looks clustered at the tip of branch.
Thanks fellas

Yeah it looks like a sac to me. What parameters you have? Light leaks? Must be a Mainah?

I hope I'm wrong but keep an eye on it for the next few days to know for sure. At this point, doesn't look like you have much choice than to remove it and hope no more come.

Did your last herm come from a MOB?

Yikes! Yeah those look like sacks to me too. You said those were lower branches? I've had a couple strains that would Hermie and others that would show early flowers under light stress. Lower branches that don't get light or enough light were always victims of the issue. The resolution is to cut out that stuff, or train your plants so you have better penetration to your lower canopy. That or grow strains that respond better to stress but that's a hunt in itself.

Fuck! I don't get it man. I keep getting hermies. My last couple grows. And idk why. My first 8 grows never had a problem. I have gotten hermies on multiple strains now. No light leaks. Temps 74 and 65 lights off. The room is in basement and no light gets in the basement. They are still in veg on 20/4 cycle. I do not get it. I figured it may be because
of lack of light to lower branches but wasn't sure. It's a 600 on those two and a couple clones. It is not a huge plant so it's not completely dark at those branches. I took a couple clones a few weeks ago. Should I ditch these and keep the clones going. I don't want the room to get pollinated

I'm at a loss to the cause. Temps are good. Light should be good. 600w mh. I just can't keep growing and getting hermies I need to somehow solve the issue. But I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Same breeder/seed bank?
The clones are of this same strain?
No I had it happen a year or two ago with some seeds I ordered. Then it happen with some clones I got. Then I moved and started from seed again and still got herm. And now again with clones that are from somebody who has ran it for years with no hermies or issues. How could this be happening in veg. I don't think I have any light leaks at all I'll double check again today. Temps are in good range. I have only topped them once so minimal training stress. One minor deficiency I had. And in veg light leaks shouldn't even cause hermie right? That's usually in flower when it needs its 12 hour of daRk. My tap water does suck. About 450ppm. I just got a reverse osmosis filter. I'm not sure what else could be causing this?
Could it be the water?
Is my whole basement and equipment covered in pollen? I cleaned the shit out of all my equipment when I built this room and scrubbed floors.
It has wood frame and is covered in black/white poly located in my basement.
I'm going to go down and check to make sure there's no light leaks, and timer is running properly,
I keep everything pretty clean.

What would you do in my situation? Because I'm stumped man. I can give you details of what I have done up to this point as far as nutes and transplants if that helps. I'll do whatever needs to be done. It is taunting me everyday, saying you can't fixxxx me!

Thanks for the help

Was your first 8 grows different genetics? I really feel that genetics play more of a role in hermies than enviro, but that's just an opinion. But, an opinion on TRYING to get a plant to hermie.

In 2008 was gifted 4 *special* seeds with no further information. I popped them in 2009. All 4 popped, but a cut worm got one and of the other 3, there were 2 fems and one male. Growth habit on all three was the same, no variation, clearly pure, or nearly pure Indica. All had 3 lobed leaves and nearly zero smell. Like an idiot, I killed the male, not realizing just what I had, but took plenty of clones from the fems. I'm still running the clones 7 years later.

Tried for 2 years to get them to hermie with no luck and I tried everything I could think of. They were just entirely too stable to succumb to any sort of stress. It also dawned on me (DUH!!!), that hermies would never give me the male chromosomes to continue the strain, so I started backcrossing in 2011. The F6 seeds are drying now and will start crossing the siblings to see what's what. With the F6 cross, it should be something like 97% pure Tres (what I call it because of the 3 lobed leaves).

Jesus! Long winded BS, or what? What I was going to suggest was, a more primary cross not far removed from land races (Mandala comes to mind here), rather than hybrids crossed with hybrids, crossed with hybrids, and far removed from the original strains.

IDK, I could also be talking totally out of my ass here, just working with one strain for over 7 years.

Radon test? I would think you would have unhealthy plants but that has me stumped as well. Maybe some offgassing or carbon monoxide from sheetrock or a furnace or sewer gas?
Sorry just throwing things out there.

Not the same strain unfortunatly. It is just weird because my first couple grows I was 19 and in a shitty apartment. I had light leaks no vents and was dirty and I somehow managed to get beautiful skunky bud. Yet now I have a clean room, fans, good lights and nutrients and no light leaks and I keep getting hermies. Really weird. It is my first time with this strain but the person I got clones from has been running the strain for years and never had any hermies.

No problem I appreciate you giving any input on the situation. I had a buddy who grows stop by and he inspected a couple branches. He believes that the plant is just in serious preflowers mode and telling me it wants to be flowered. I'm going to keep an eye on them and see what happens. Keep my fingers crossed. Going to trim the bottom couple inches to get rid of the small branches that have been concerning me.
