Trich Scoping...Method?

Ok so I stopped being lazy and went to Radioshack and got a 60-100x illuminated microscope. It was $10.00.

I came home to check out some buds I had already harvested under the scope. After quite a struggle I was able to finally focus the image and see some trichs. The problem is, in order to see them I had to lay the microscope flat against a piece of paper with the bud under it - how the hell am I supposed to be able to look at trichs on of a bud still on the plant?

Everyone on this site makes it sound so easy, just get a scope and look at your trichs to see if you're ready to harvest. Oh really? Just like that huh? If I'm going to have to snip a bud off to check trichs I might as well not waste my time with the scope and fucking smoke the shit to see if its ready lol.

So, how do you guys do it? Do you scope the trichs with the bud on the plant or do you have to snip a 'test' bud off? My lights have not come on yet but I just can't imagine trying to hold the scope steady up against a bud WHILE peering through it lol...

I just steady the bud with one hand, and rest the microscope on top of, or on the side of the bud, and focus with my other hand. Works fine for me... I'm assuming you got the little rectangular handheld one too? That's what I have.

I'm with you on this one, I had a hell of a time doing this until I discovered that all you need to do is snip off a tiny bud leaf & lay it on your piece of paper w/ the scope on top. After I'm done looking at it I generally just eat it. Tasty !
Peace

just place it onto the bud and keep playin with focus and ur beable see all of them, some are higher then others so adjusting the focus helps to see them, u should be able to move it around and see them as u move it! its quite easy once u get the hang of it

Yeah I think I'm getting the hang of it, takes some practice steadying and then making sure you move in the right direction since axis are swapped lol.

I looked at a bud from one of my plants that are 7 weeks into flower (sativas). I saw a few trichs on top of the bud were getting cloudy and the trichs mid-bud were obviously clear because i literally could see through them. So I'm guessing as time passes the near cloudy trichs will turn real cloudy/amber and the clear trichs are going to be cloudy and then I'll know that harvest time is near.
