Trump travel leaves Secret Service cash-strapped

The US Secret Service is facing a strain on its budget due in part to President Donald Trump's
large family and multiple properties

Secret Service Director Randolph "Tex" Alles said some

1,100 agents will hit their overtime allowance caps for the year.

Under Mr Trump, 42 people receive protection, an increase from 31 people during the Obama administration.

Mr Trump has travelled nearly every weekend to his East coast properties.

Among those protected are 18 members of the Trump family, who have required

security on international business trips to promote Trump properties as well as family holidays.

Some of the more costly bills, according to the USA Today report, include:

  • Estimated $3m per visit to Mar-a-Lago
  • Some $60,000 on golf cart rentals at both Mar-a-Lago and Bedminster
  • Nearly $100,000 on hotels to protect the president's son, Eric Trump,
  • during a business trip he took to Uruguay
Other trips requiring security included visits in February by both Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr to

Vancouver, British Columbia, to open a new Trump hotel there,

and to Dubai for the opening of a Trump International Golf Club.

Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, required Secret Service security during their ski holiday

in Aspen, Colorado, in March while Tiffany Trump and her boyfriend have

received protection on recent trips to Germany and Hungary.

In a statement released on Monday, Mr Alles said the agency struggled with a "similar situation" last

year that led to legislation allowing Secret Service employees to exceed overtime allowance caps.

He said the agency has been working with the Department of Homeland Security, the Trump

administration and Congress to find a legislative solution to the "serious problem".

"This issue is not one that can be attributed to the current Administration's protection requirements alone,

but rather has been an ongoing issue for nearly a decade due to an overall increase

in operational tempo," he said.

But Mr Alles said on Monday the Secret Service had enough funds to

"meet all current missions requirements for the remainder of the fiscal year and compensate

employees for overtime within statutory pay caps".

He said he expects the strain on the agency to be relieved as it increases its current force of 6,800

agents and uniformed officers to as many as 9,500 by 2025.

Secret Service resources have been exhausted since last year's tumultuous presidential election,

when agents were required at both national political conventions.

The agency's expenses since Mr Trump's inauguration covered seven trips to his estate in Mar-a-Lago,

Florida, five visits to his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club and a trip to Trump Tower in Manhattan.

Earlier this month, the Secret Service was forced to vacate Trump Tower in Manhattan to a nearby

trailer after a lease dispute between the government and the Trump Organization,

US media reported.

Obama's a Kenyan golfer in chief.
I hope you're being sarcastic.

Trump is on course (pun not intended but totally awesome) to spend more than Obama did in 8 years by the end of year 2.

EDIT: This is actually inaccurate, he's expected to surpass it by around the start of year 2.

22% of his Presidency so far has been spent in a Trump branded golf course.

I heard that at this rate Trump will beat Obama total cost's for 8 years in one year.
Good news is that the way things are going right now for that dipshit, we won't have to worry about it.
He ain't going to make it 2 years.

In April, CNN reported that Trump's travel to his private club in Florida has cost more than an estimated $20 million in his first 80 days in office, putting the President on pace to surpass former President Barack Obama's eight years of spending on travel -- in only his first year in office.

Wasn't this completely predictable though?

Also secret service is protecting Trump branded properties around the world.

This is minor compared to the kleptocrat in chief's profits made from governments and businesses favoring Trump brand over others. He'll be the wealthiest man in the world if he manages a second term.

First off, most awesome pun I've ever seen.

Secondly, you're incorrect. Trump has ALREADY spent more in 6.5 months than Obama did in 3.5 years. At the present rate, he'll completely outspend Obama in just 15 months.
I edited it almost directly after posting to reflect this truth, my original post was old data.

Originally they predicted he'd outspend Obama after 4 years, then it was 2 and a half and now it's "end of year one, early year 2".

Hilarious.

And the kicker? They're his clubs so he's literally siphoning off public money into his own purse at an unprecedented race.

He's losing money every day now, if he has any (tax returns anyone?)
Charities and conventions are bailing out from his properties every day, especially at Mar-a-Lago.
Hopefully by the time he get's thrown out of office, he and his children won't have a pot to piss in.

One booking with the Saudi family and he's good.

I'd like to think he's losing money but charities are peanuts compared to families of tyrants.

Not that I know anything. This stuff had more play before he got sworn in. Cancellation of wind farms that would spoil the view from Trump's Scotland golf course, awarded copyright to Trump hotels in China, marketing Trump developments in China as an avenue to a US visa, exclusive rights to Saudi family bookings while on travel, favor given when applying for building permits, and of course, the franchise for booking presidential rooms when he's on travel, then hyping the room as the place where Donald was peed on. The infortainment channels were served up heaping portions of dumb twitter distractions and they stopped reporting on the corruption of the Kleptocrat in Chief.

I hope all his toothless poor as fuck, out of work cracker head supporters are enjoying watching it, while their food stamp vouchers and MedicAid are going down the shitter. :)

Do you really think anybody who is on a billionaire level of wealth would ever have anything to do with this clownshoes stupid egomaniac.

He has been living off of everybody elses money since birth and has done nothing with any of it except lose it more it.

After a brief bit of success and celebrity from his old mans money he lost it all. So he went to the banks and borrowed money in his fathers name and lost all that too. He fucked up so bad that the banks have never lent to him again. They have just paid him for license to the Trump name.

Lucky he got a tv show out of it but even that money is owed. The only money he hasnt lost yet is mafia money that he has laundered with the trump name. Both italian and russian.... but it was never his money.

Trump has never had his own money because he is clownshoes stupid. He is the late night used car salesman wearing them fuckin shoes and the nose and the hair screaming at bleary eyed meth heads at 4am...

If guys like us can see that imagine how obvious it is to somebody smart enough to make billions?

If he wasnt president none of em would open a door to him and most still dont...

As I said earlier, there were a lot of reports earlier about how well his brand was doing with him as the then next president. For example, within a month after his inauguration, he was awarded a copyright on his name in China. He'd been seeking that for years. Bookings in his hotels were up and rooms where he had stayed were being heavily booked. Saudi family showed preference to Trump Hotels after he won too.

I agree that his empire was/is a house of cards held up by debt. Hundreds of millions in loans from China and probably more from Russia, I've heard numbers in the 1-2 billion range. There is a "200 M net worth" bandied about. Net worth = total - debts. In his business, loans are used in every transaction and paper "net worth" is almost unknowable. That 200 M figure probably means his worth is between -1.2 B and 1.2 B. While I'd totally agree that he's probably not even worth two million, nobody, not even Trump can say what it actually is and be 100% confident in that number. Excluding illegal loans, which I think he's taken too.

I can see how his stint in the White House could help pay a lot of that off or maybe even allow the corporation to leverage interest rates down. There are a lot of ways he can benefit from an unstated relationship between the wealthy, his businesses and the Trump presidency.

Here is an example from an article that came out just a few days ago:

Trump’s Interests vs. America’s, Dubai Edition
Despite its pledge to avoid new foreign deals, the Trump Organization is moving forward with expansion plans in the United Arab Emirates.

https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2017/08/donald-trump-conflicts-of-interests/508382/
On August 5, the Trump Organization announced a new venture via Twitter: the Trump Estates Park Residences, “a collection of luxury villas with exclusive access to” the Trump International Golf Course in Dubai. The Trump-branded (though not Trump-owned) development is part of the company’s ongoing partnership with the Dubai-based real-estate firm Damac, which has previously made news due to its president Hussain Sajwani’s relationship to the Trump family. Individual units are expected to sell for 2.6 million Emirati dirhams, or roughly $800,000.

Trump’s relationship with Sajwani certainly creates the impression that this venture could give special benefits to the Emirati businessman and, by extension, other investors who have Sajwani’s ear. At a New Year’s Eve celebration at Mar-a-Lago, a guest recorded Trump publicly praising Sajwani. Trump later noted that, after the election, he spoke with the Emirati billionaire about a potential deal but ultimately decided not to pursue it, saying, “It’s a nice thing to have, but I don’t want to take advantage of something”—a statement that suggests that, even though Trump turned the deal down, the offer was memorable enough to leave a positive impression. Sajwani also met with Donald Trump Jr. in May, demonstrating enviable access to the president’s family that potential investors may hope to capitalize on.

This is just the first year of his presidency. If he makes it for 8 years, he'll be wealthy beyond anything we can imagine. I'm not speaking from knowledge, just my opinion.
