.. big blob of foam on the loose.

Ok so I was using the yeast and sugar in bottle CO2 method and there's foam all over the place in the soil.. does this harm the plants or the soil?

I'm not positive, but I don't think that you want to water your plants with that mixture.

why is there foam in the soil? the yeast and shit is just supposed to sit in the room (or box) your not suppossed to feed the plant with that.

and unfortunately, I don't think that there would be anyone here that would know how to fix it, short of transplanting those bitches and hoping for the best, but I think that feeding them that water would fuck them up.

Noooo I didn't water them with that stuff. But I had a bottle between two pots with kind of a T pipe on top so the co2 would flow through the pipe and go to both plants. The foam just went up through the pipe and dripped onto the soil..

ok, thats better then...... i would probably move the co2 stuff farther away, as long as it's close, it'll help.

It's reduced much of the foam now :) it's no longer overflowing from the pipes and stuff.. but damn that foam stank.

I don't think it will seriously kill the plants. It's not great for them, that's for sure, but the only thing in the foam is water, sugar, yeast, and CO2. When the Yeast eat up all the sugar, then just go dormant or die. No big deal. But if you are using hydro this could fuck up your Ph.

Flush it?? but it was just foam and the plants are still seedlings, won't that fuck em up? I'm kinda afraid from flushing

Well I'll leave it in for now.. it's a big pot and the foam didn't penetrate much :D although I scooped it up and a bit of the top soil and threw it away

It will be fine.

Think about it. You put yeast, sugar and water in the mixture. It makes CO2 and Alcohol. Since I know the bubbling over part happens the first time u mix it all together then there really wont be much alcohol, and plants like water and sugar soooo...

Plus hey, its a weed

Alcohol isn't good for your plants and the yeast will consume the sugars and continue to thrive as long as they have food. (sugar) Don't add any sugars and it will go away. Problem is, plants like sugars. Now your plant is competing with the yeast for sugar.

Wikipedia:
See also: Mating of yeast Yeasts have asexual and sexual reproductive cycles; however the most common mode of vegetative growth in yeast is asexual reproduction by budding or fission.[16] Here a small bud, or daughter cell, is formed on the parent cell. The nucleus of the parent cell splits into a daughter nucleus and migrates into the daughter cell. The bud continues to grow until it separates from the parent cell, forming a new cell.[17] The bud can develop on different parts of the parent cell depending on the genus of the yeast.Yeast needs the exact chemical form of sugar and cannot reproduce with sugar substitutes. However if the sugar substitute's chemical form is similar to sugar, yeast will reproduce a bit compared with many sugar substitutes where yeast will not reproduce at all.
Under high stress conditions haploid cells will generally die, however under the same conditions diploid cells can undergo sporulation, entering sexual reproduction (meiosis) and producing a variety of haploid spores, which can go on to mate (conjugate), reforming the diploid.[18]
Yeast of the species Schizosaccharomyces pombe reproduce by binary fission instead of budding.[16]

Hmm that doesn't sound good.. let's hope for the best, there isn't supposed to be much sugar in the soil for now since I haven't used anything but water with the plants

I ended up flushing the damn plant anyway -_- now I'm afraid from the nutes that came in the soil since I think they'll dissolve like hell now, gave them water till the water that came from the bottom wasn't yellow anymore. That's right isn't it? Hope she'll get back to life soon since she seemed to be suffering a bit of a nitrogen deficiency but it's still to young to give her nutes.
