updating a 2011 LED panel

im working on a rebuild i guess. i have a magnum 357 which is a monochromatic. most yield i ever saw off it was maybe 2oz.

found some LED strips on ebay that say :

so catch my math and check my work please ha. because i calculated 215lm/w or so from these strips.

i said 15W/72 leds = .208W per LED
so,
45LM/.208W = 216lm/w
and,
45LM*72 = 3240LM per strip
deal is, 10 strips for 12$, 32,400 LM from 150W total for the light over a 15cmX50cm footprint. I imagine itll need a fan.

wowsers..... I figure the newest LEDs are flooding the market already as jelly beans, so ill take the gamble, trust, and see what i get in the mail. I was satisfied with the LED strips i received from export-estonia in a previoius build last month i titled "boring ol 153lm/w" or whatever i wrote.

anyway, the plan is to disassemble the previous magnum panel from 2011 and fit these 216lm/w ebay strips on the heatsink slate with some room for reds and UVa. . hopefully

well.. went ahead and purchased these.

So on the low end, 40LM per led.
72leds*40LM = 2880 Lumens per strip. 2880/15w=192lm/w.

10 strips 28,800 LM total over a 15cmX50cm footprint.

Your math adds up as far as a casual back of the fag packet calculation but I have serious concerns over claimed outputs above 150lm/w even for smd chips, I might be 6 months behind the curve there so don't take my word on it but gen 7 vero's were top lm/w leds more or less only a month or 2 ago and their top output is only 148lm/w

Lol, yea so ... There is a comeback from the mid powered LEDs that we all tried to get away from by using cobs. So now the peak we've seen is Lm561c, which is upwards around 200lm/w and that's just what's available though digikey. The way I learn about new parts is usually from word of mouth and frequenting the "narrow your search" function on digikey and mouser. But you're right, this could be a marketing claim. Should be a worthwhile light though. I will measure the actual power consumption when they get here to see if it's correct at 15w.

Eh, regardless, id be satisfied with them even at 30-35 LM, which is vastly more common per diode in the listings I dashed through this ppast two weeks. That'd be 146-168 LM/w.

12$ for 10ct, 2190-2524 LM strips over 20"

Shit, that's at least a veg panel or side lighting

supposedly epistar achieved 216lm/w back in 2011...not sure where these chips are if they exist...

At 40mA they were already down to about 155lm/w. You'd need a billion of those things....
15mA at one watt, like stated in the article, is a 65v chip. So at .005a and to still illuminate would suggest it is still a high voltage compared to what we think of with mid powered diodes.

Clearly not the same diode here but it may be more recent epistar tech.

the footprint on the heatsink is 430x270 mm but has two holes about 1 cm in from each side to fasten hanging wires.

guesstimating the length of each segment of LED to be about 41.7 mm from the given 500mm length and that there are 72 leds with 6 leds per segment. So, im saying 72leds/6=12 segments per 500mm. 500mm/12segments = 41.7mm per segment

dude I'm right there with you... I have a hydrogrow penetrator 336x pro ($1900!), a fero apollo 10 ($400), 2 lush lights ($850) and 2 knock-off truth lighting m16s ($900) from 2010-2014... the funny thing is they don't actually suck.. they grow good herb, just aren't very efficient, produce too much heat..

before I ditch them, I'm going to attempt to rewire them to run at half-current and see what that does to the efficiency...

it seems like the efficiency of diodes increases every year at an extraordinary rate. I agree, this panel really doesnt grow bad buds, just small/dense nuggets, and the penetration isnt so great.
