Wannabe Indoor Grower ?s

So... this is my first post on this site. I have to admit though, I've been lurking and learning stuff for a long time. Right now, I'm casually growing a few plants on my back balcony. I planted them on Labor Day weekend , so I haven't gotten to harvesting time yet, and these are my first plants. They seem to be doing ok, though. :) I'd like to start growing indoors. I have a one bedroom aparment, so unfortunately setting up a bedroom as a grow room is not an option. I have my closet, which is 9' tall , six and a half feet deep. 5' wide, with a couple metal wire shelves and a 22"x22 inch bulge in the right back corner (the closet has five inner walls... weird shaped). The shelves are on the left side if you're looking in. With all the info on lights, seeds, PH levels and lumens I've taken in, i'd have to admit that I'm overwhelmed. I'm trying to make the best use of this space with a high yield plant and I don't want my electric bill to go up too much. I've *heard* that live in an area where the PD is on it with the electric companies. They also supposedly have infrared helis that they fly over your house from time to time...grr... The initial cost of the setup isn't really a problem to me, I'd like to invest in good lights that I'd keep for awhile. I just don't want to be obvious. I'd also need a light that I could avoid mounting to the wall (can't F-up the drywall in this rental, I can't even hang pictures)Does anybody have any suggestions for me? What type of seeds should I get, what type of lights, do I need ventilation, etc. I'm planning on growing in Miracle Grow potting soil as I've had plenty of good luck with that outdoors. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Start with flouros for vegitative growth, low heat and low elec usage, you will have to go to hps for flowering but at least at that time you can have the lights on in the day when the IR won't be as accurate.

you're talking about an indoor closet in an apartment. you won't need to worry about the police flying over and noticing you unless you stick about 10 1000w HPS in there, pointing up. ;)
is the closet against an outside wall? night temp changes can have negative effects on growth and sex. insulate!
