We're breeding out the ambering of trich's in many new strains ?

Flowered a Bodhi Thunder Wookie that smelled like shit, real shit for weeks up to chop. Now it is curing to a spicy Skunk ass.

I grew some Oaxacan Zipolite and one was all foxtail from the start. Some low latitude sativas are like that. And they hermie for the hell of it at times.
Yeah, I had a strain that foxtailed like a bitch. It was so bad I just killed a couple of healthy clones from that plant. I'm done with fluffy buds. Going back to my favorite afgooey strain. Easy to grow and turns out perfect every time.

I've been switching from HPS to MH for the last week or so of flower my last couple grows and I've noticed my trichs go amber within a couple days of switching the bulb then a new flush of trichs come in nice and clear. These don't amber up until the plant finishes. So I can see lighting effecting the process. I'd like to understand the mechanics behind it a little better.
I've tried that. Did not work for me on 6 different strains - End result was still the same. Unless the strain is old school....I don't get ambering....

I change over for the extra UV at the end. I've noticed more trich production after switching. The ambering seems to be temporary reaction to the light change.

What do you consider "old school" genetics? I gotta say, with the amount of people breeding nowadays, seems like every Tom, Dick and Harry are crossing and making their own strains, I don't know anymore what's good and what's not. 10 years ago it was much easier. I've been cycling the same stock for a couple years now, blueberry, vanilla kush, LSD. I'm flowering out my first run of blue dream, green crack and durban poison right now, still sitting on some chemdog, trainwreck, White widow and a few other seeds. I have a strawberry amnesia I just started, probably my "newest" strain. I'm assuming these SHOULD all amber up.

So, without ambering..WTF are we now looking for? Receding pistils, swelling calyx.. then what? Just milky? Wait for signs of trich head degradation? Magic 8 ball?

I run Mercury Vapor 400w under my hoods 3 hrs a day - Plenty of UVB!

90% of what you list will have some amber show - a cpl of them not much. A BD cut I had did not much but, had some.

10th post in the thread---

.....Just about everything I've been running from breeders other then the seed bank brands - A few of them too....

GG#4 is a perfect example.
Most of the Cookies strains I've played with - cept the one I crossed with a "muffin cut" Blueberry from the 80's.....it has taken that ambering in from the BB......high THC strain too....Do-Si-Dos, Plt Banana, Goondox Rocks (stinky fucker), Thin Mint OG, Ghost Breath, and HP #7 to name some off the top on my head.

Receding pistils, swelling calyx.. Milky trich's - Run long - run longer then you think - Get to that swollen calyx condition!

12th week starts today. Two different strains. LED light was switched out for a 9 band. Placed to within 12" from the colas. Going from 10 hours to 11.45 possibly caused some bananas. They were removed and no new ones have formed. That was a week and half ago.

I've starved the plants. Then followed with a small dose of fertilizer. 1ml micro and 4ml bloom. Nada for $hit. No Amber anywhere on the either plant.

I've ran the plants close to death. What major fan leaves that are still standing are wilting.

Basturds just won't amber.

Since the LEDs are cheap crap but have many reported successful grows reviews. We'll see what the same strains will do in under a combination of 3000k and 3500k COBs.

After these current plants hurry up and start dying. Ill do Another run using the 9 band leds in cabinet #2. This time, no diminished light cycle in flower.

This no amber thing is annoying. It's either the light or light cycle. Three different strains have done the exact same thing. Pushed to wilted but stay milky.

Well for this kind of amber we need to start with genetics. It sounds like you are talking about amber after the trichs are already turned cloudy.

The amber ( and purple, pink and violet) trichomes I am referring too appear way before the plant is ripe.

I also notice the more afghani the hybrid leans is like the more it is just clear to cloudy to amber trichs like the guides say.

For instance I could have 2 Blue Lemon Thai plants. The more Thai/Diesel it leans the more chance for colored transparent trichomes.

The short pole plant pheno never shows colors. Just cloudy when peaked.
dr. who (op)says he means strains that dont amber, nothing about ones that amber before plants are ripe?

Yep. That's why I'm adding my experiences with plants that don't amber. Not with the newly bred strains but with strains dating back to the mid 90's.

Anyway, since amber is the routine marker for when it's ripe. The marker itself isn't working. Everything thing else says ripe. Growth has peaked with no more bulk being added. Leaves are turning and free falling off. One an indica dominant, the other a sativa dominant. They're not the first two that's refused to amber.

The indica was 'ripe' a long time ago. The sativa, was done last week. I've ran the clock on these things. No Amber after 12 weeks in flower...No where on either plant. I've never had this issue until using a diminished light cycle with a LED. Two separate LED lights in two different spaces. With an increase in length of light cycle having no effect.

They're getting cut down today. I need to move on with making some seeds with one of sativas. If the next crops amber under a full 11.45 day within 11 weeks window. No more diminished cycle for me.

do you augment your indoor space with c02?
