What qualities define the basis for rating "bag appeal"?

Just for a (hopefully) fun discussion regarding how the presentation of buds has changed over the years.

When I was a young guy starting out smoking (when I shouldn't have because I was too young!)...we basically just accepted "weed" as being a bunch of dried up leaves, stems and seeds that had to be sorted out and ultimately rolled into a joint. There wasn't really a concern with the looks being well-manicured or of a certain color...or even that it was covered with crystalline trichomes...TRICHOMES???? No one even knew what they were!

But nowadays, we see these absolutely stellar-looking nugs of uniform size and density -NEVER a fan leaf! NEVER a loose stem! or any other garbage in the bag....BAGS??? Oh wait...I mean containers! ;)

And I was fascinated to watch an Urban Remo video where he was a judge testing Sativas for some kind of Cannbis Cup judging or something...and they made choices based on looks, first, and then went back and checked the other "uglier" samples later on...only to find that many of the beautiful-looking buds didn't pack the flavor of the less-beautiful ones.

So, even though there seems to be a "standard" for what LOOKS good, it doesn't always follow through that those will be the best quality strains.

What, then, IS bag appeal good for?

The folks around here really can't tell from one bag to the next. The only big difference is the shade of green. Somebody still makes a comment about 'red' hairs. Still looks the same.

The commercial trimming makes it looks dense. Home grown, scissor trimmed, more sparkly.

I haven't seen a lot folks notice the subtle purple, orange, or whatever. They stick it in the grinder faster then that look at it.

Yea never been an expert on this as im just a personal mmj hobbyist but my last round was less dense and smaller buds than i normally get, all clones of same line, and this round was better than the rest in the pipe. Looks dont always mean much. And im not saying we shouldnt strive for physical beuty, its just not always the end all.

Just like the time i had this gal chasing me who was no hottie, she whispered in my ear, us fat ugly girls do stuff in bed all the time that those skinny girls aint even thought of yet... didnt take her up on it, but always wondered if vanity got in the way of a hell of a good time.

I want to see some light lime green or a light purple with sugar all over.

Looks great, but it's dry. I messed up the cure, it still goes for top shelf as people were donating for it solely off looks rather than actual medical quality, I think bag appeal is everything.

It has gone crazy over here. I've seen some really frosty stuff that looked amamzing and smoked like crap!

Or it smells sooo good, looks dense. You go to grab it and it's fluff and very harsh. The best stuff for me is dense sticky, doesn't have to have a smell.
