Like the title says how much does it cost to build a sweet led?

Im sure this is the 100th thread on the subject

Im a straight noob to led builds but im handy enough i think.

The only problem is being such a noob i have no idea whats good whats bad and the tech moves
So fast .

I still have one of the original 90w ufo that came out like 10 years ago lol

So if you wouldnt mind help me decide if this is somthing i want to try.

I love diy to save. But i want a light that will compete with double enders.
Or be good supplemental to my lights

And i know you guys have done some amazing builds.

Thanks

Would.like answers to this too, seen so much about DIY cobs And have no idea what the difference is or how expensive it is.
I'm just starting my 3rd grow with a viparspectra and so many people don't rate then at all! I want to know just how limited I am with it

I accidentally posted this then looked and saw there are a few threads already.

If you could spend close to say a grand tops
What would it be and why :)

@1212ham could you lend us your knowledge?

I've done a lot of looking into building a cob led to replace my 1000watt. I bought 2 3500k vero 29 chips to replace the chips in a Chinese cob light I had. They are each only drawing 48 watts and vegging my white lav, a few white rhino clones, and a miniature rose bush very well.

I would like to know if the cobs are better than the leds with multiple lower wattage diodes?

I'm certainly not an expert, but I know enough to chime in here.....

There are so many variables to quantify "Badass", more information is needed before any real answer is reached.
What are the dimensions of the space you want to Illuminate?

Edit: Starting with the growmau5 videos is a good idea....

Ideally id only want to spend 500 or so

And would like the flexibility to build it to.my rooms dimensions aka i have my gavita up high
Would like leds for evening out the sides .

But another gavita is around 450 $ and 750 watts

So if i could build an equal for the same or less that would be ideal

Or like i saidn2 smaller arrays for the sides

I would imagine that a grand could build you several very good grow lights. The Meanwell 600watt driver is only ~$180, or MW 320watt for ~$150, vero 29's are around 25/piece or the cheaper citizen chips look pretty damn decent for only $9 from www.cobkits.com

From what I've read, 35watts/sq ft of led will be good.

Thanks man

For sure its an open question.

But like i said im not looking to necessarily get rid of my gavita
But i would like to add some here and there :)

But if its good enough to cover an 8x8 i would consider switching
