What's the longest you've successfully stored bud for?

I'm just wondering like, is there a point to keeping a small amount of every harvest jarred away so you can revisit it 1, 2, maybe 3 years down the line?

Anyone here have success doing that? I imagine once you go through 3 years worth of harvests, one might be able to maintain a diverse selection of available top quality buds? But, this depends on how long they last before degrading.

Around a year

Let me introduce you to the concept of Christmas Weed. Every harvest I take the single best cola from each plant and set it aside in the Christmas Weed jar. I only do four plants per harvest so I might have twelve or so buds by the end of the year, cured for anywhere between 3 months and 12 months. During December, I have a "best of 2016" selection to enjoy, and I've never had any degradation over that time frame.

As for the point of it, Christmas Weed needs no further justification.

From prev posts on this subject it sounds like there doesnt seem to be any or at least a noticeable degration of the bud for at least 3 years.
Ive had stuff stored for 2 years and its fine. My reg smoke is normally cured for round 12 months. (i grow more than i need)

Id like to see some actual science on the subject though. Real world lab testing

My stuff goes for 12 months give or take a bit regularly ....and that's without doing any kinda tricky storage methods because I'm getting into it one to three times per week to get more out ....just large zip locks inside a huge airtight tote inside a dark cool closet ....I've never had to toss any because it wasn't good ....so IMO a year is quite easy almost without trying

A couple days ago I had a hit of my Blue Heaven and was thinking how nice it was. Took a closer look at the label on the jar and it's from 2010. Been sitting around at room temp the whole time as well.

I recently sprouted 20 beans of that strain to do a SoG grow and all 20 came up tho a couple are runty.

What's the oldest seeds you've ever germed? I wonder about that too -- nug and strain storage over longterm. I'm one of those people who is a sucker for collecting/hoarding lmao but only for things I *really* like.

Not a lot of it left but it's one of my favorite strains and flowers out in 52 - 65 days depending on pheno. It's a cross a buddy made 8 years ago or so in Texas. L.S.D. x Blueberry both from Barney's Farms.

This is what that strain looks like in full flower.

The plants I'm about to crop now are a cross I made from Kali Mist and Northern Lights #5 that were originally bought from the old Marc Emery seed bank. The kali gave me mild anxiety attacks with just a small hit so I crossed it with the NL and that toned down the sativa rush just right for me. Problem is it takes up to 14 weeks to finish flowering but worth the wait. These ones have been further crossed with an auto called Purple Jem and I'm getting F2 seeds off them so hopefully will find some auto girls in them. I live way up in northern Alberta and regular plants like it never finish before frost hits as early as the first week in Sept.

I've got some beans that are from '03 but haven't tried sprouting them. Not something I really want tho should give them a try I guess. Ones I do want to keep I'll grow some out every few years and make some fresh beans to make sure I keep that strain alive.

I just planted 56 of this strain I'm flowering out now and got 30 that look good. Of the 20 BH ones I planted all came up but a couple are real runts. The plan is to do a SoG type grow in 10 - 2gal pots with 4 or 5 sprouts in each pot. Then in a few weeks sprout another 70 or so to get another batch going. I'll breed some of the BH but the others are the F1s of my auto hunt so are basically disposable. I still have about 200 of those seeds. With all this going on I have over 70 plants on the go and if I actually applied to become a legal grower my 8g/day papers would only allow me 39 plants. I don't plan to apply to grow legally tho.

That's pretty much strain dependent as they are all in the same dirt. I put down about 2 - 3" of the mix I use to grow larger plants in. It's ProMix HP and Promix potting soil 50/50 so there is some nutes in it but not much. Then I laid the seeds in a grid and covered them with about 1/2" of screened ProMix BX that I use for cuttings and seedlings. To water them I lift the top trays up and pour a couple inches of RO water in the bottom tray and let them sit in that until the top of the soil looks wet. Then dump out the extra water. There's a couple strips of styrofoam in the bottom tray to keep the seedling tray up and let it drain.

In a few more days they'll all be in the 2 gal pots and I'm making a tray out of 1x4s and panda film so I can bulk water them by flooding the tray the sucking up any excess water with the shop vac. :)

The ones on the right were planted a day after the others. Did you notice the triploid one at the very bottom left?

They are all under 8 4' T12 fluoro tubes but I'll soon need to fire up the 400w MH as I'm running out of room. I have 6 other plants in 2L pots and 3 seedlings of 2 hi-CBD strains under there. And two lemon trees that need bigger pots too. :)
