Ive been trying to create strains that are good for chronic depression and PTSD as well as somethign for insomnia, like SCARHOLE i try to share as much genetics as possible....if something will help somebody its thiers. I like working with sativas for the most part but i also like making hybrids.

if you want strains that fight insomnia and depression, look into kali mist and C99. those two are too energetic to sit down on and are clear headed though mosca's C99s are supposed to be trippy and i've read of stony phenos. ORIGINAL kali mist (12.5% more indica now) was particularly energetic & euphoric where maybe C99 (joey weed) toned it down a notch, but the latter is way more indoor friendly with it's 45-50 day flowering time.

it's cool seeing so many more people here breaking away from the indica stranglehold and aiming for quality over quantity where i've been the only one demanding it most of the time in a couple other "sellouts only" forums.

if people want to get high, they gotta DIY. that's a crappy status quo, but that's the greedy world we live in.

My breeding goal Hmm let's see?  To swap the tall late finishing, high yielding traits of the best Sativas with the indicas. I want a 20 foot tall Indica in simpler terms that finishes in 60 days with a THC content of atleast 25%, and solid buds with good branching & many bud sites. Impossible?

Wow that is a project. Impossible not in the least, time consuming? bro you are talking years and years of breeding to do this. IMO it is harder to try this now than when I first started making my seeds and finally breeding within that genepool in 1968. Today there are few landraces left which haven't been polluted that are sold in seedbanks. Also, a trait largely overlooked is the fact that most strains commercially available today have been bred indoors for many generations which the plants will become adapted to. I realize most of this sounds petty but genetics and adaptability of plants is amazing.
Now the research will begin to find the traits you want and the lineage of their parents. You will have to determine for the sake of ease and time which most closely match each other. The more closely related to each other the more similiar your phenos will be in future generations. So now IMHO you will have to decide how many parents you are going to start with and how you will breed within this set gene pool. Here is a link for a seedfinder search engine I find it invaluable in determining what I am looking for in seeds or tracing lineage of strains. http://en.seedfinder.eu/search/extended/
I certainly don't want to discourage anyone from doing this, it has given me years of enjoy and at times reasons to get out of bed in the morning. I just don't want someone to think that "wow in 3 or 4 years I can have this plant" and get discouraged with the process. Breeding within strains can be difficult enough and between sativas and indica breeding for specific traits will be very involved to say the least.
Best of luck on your project

Great thread and allot of ambitious goals, very nice indeed. My passion is sativas, hands down. As someone mentioned before its very hard to find a good strain to use in a breeding program.

So energetic sativas are now known for helping with INSOMNIA? Am I reading that right? So I can smoke some, get all energetic and go to sleep?

brain fart. i was thinking of the OPPOSITE of insomnia, lethargy.

if you have insomnia, you want indicas.

i never claimed to be infallable. energetic strains are THE OPPOSITE of what you want for sure. my bad. i read insomnia, i think "sleeping disorder" and then lock on the sleep aspect. i wasn't trying to mislead the OP. their mention that they like sativas too threw me into "high gear" as well. it was a knee jerk reply. i have no problem admitting when i'm wrong. apologies to the OP for the incorrect information.

THANKS FOR THE CORRECTION!

Breeding goal update, lol. Just cracked 11/11 on seeds produced with my Lady Cane #1. So I guess since I just couldn't wait to crack these to see if they are viable I will have to run cycles of these to see if they are like momma. Oh, they were crossed with the Lady Cane males, it was a blend of all of their pollen then pollinated a branch. I know the long way around a project but when finished it will be a great true-breeding strain.

the long route is the best one where breeding is concerned. take your time & get it right. i WISH i could just move to canada where i could just grow out enough stuff to select for ultimate phenos and have enough rooms that i could even test males and work some serious magic with already great strains instead of just tinkering with what i can cram under a couple lights.

keep us posted on how your program turns out.

Hazey that is why I moved to Costa Rica, lol. Still not legal but I am in the mountains and very isolated, no one bothers me. I bred out Jamican Lambs Bread and Panama Red back in the late 60's and 70's in Florida and over about 20 years bred them true for my conditions in Florida. Alas, in 2007 my first year in Costa Rica all of my genetics were stolen, every last seed and plant on my farm. So I bought a good selection from Sannies mostly related strains or with common backgrounds and I start my new quest again. Maybe it won't take so long this time but, it is my life goal so I am patient in the quest for the ultimate pheno from what I have now.
Happy Growing

WOW! you must really love the ganja to move up to the mountains! i would imagine if you looked hard enough, you could find some nice local strains. at that location, why don't you get some landraces? you can do everything TGA sells indoors, but if you have a secluded location, you could do thai & malawi gold etc.

i couldn't picture myself living in south america. i love the food, but the culture just doesn't agree with me. i can't name anything specific, but something about south america is "off" to me. maybe it's those creepy day of the dead celebrations, maybe it's all of the bad movies, or maybe it's something else, but nothing other than the food interests me. OK, latinas can be hot, but they're also high maintenance. i've had 2 experiences with them that weren't the greatest & you DON'T want to scorn a latina that wants to bear your children! LOL

Hey the latinas are the most beautiful women in the world and also the most tempermental at times but it's all good. I find their maintenance less than American but maybe I was just maintianing the wrong chicas, lol. As far as finding local strains I have grown out a few which I have run across, nothing worth breeding yet, but in Jan. I am taking a week or two and going to the mountains of Panama in search. Many areas down here I don't enjoy as much as others but overall once here for a year you can never go back to the States. The people of Costa Rica are unlike other central america countries and are certainly the friendliest of the group down here and have made me feel like a native since day one.
As far as loving my ganja yes, I think it is what is keeping me upright these days., several heartattacks and strokes but the girls get me out of bed every morning to go to work. Nice being retired now and spending my days playing with plants, wondering which will breed back to which the best. but I rant sorry, keep up your breeding and your advice to folks you are doing well here.

oh latinas are gorgeous. that's why the one i worked with once fell in love with me. she liked the way i smiled at her when i saw i'd be working with her, but i didn't like the way she thought trying to tell how to do the job i'd been doing for several years elsewhere when she did something else and arguing with me equaled "flirting". i don't go for that & decided i didn't like her after that. when she tried to put the moves on me outside of work & i wasn't hearing it, she freaked out threatening to get her brothers to beat me up (for REFUSING to sleep with you? REALLY BITCH?!) and got me fired to be spiteful. the second one was even worse, but when a latina loves you, she doesn't do it half assed. i just like less emotional women, but yeah, latinas are gorgeous.

you know i've been offered threesomes with a pair of gals a bunch of times and have turned them down every time. i'm really old fashioned in the getting busy department, but i DO like poonanny squirming with delight in my face. i also turned down the offer from a gal i DID want to do when we were alone when she asked me if i wanted to "hit it" at a party with her wearing a see through top.

i'm just not an orgy guy.

i don't like shaved puss either. i like it 100% natural & orgasmic.

My breeding goal: One dank all-day smoke hybrid, one euphoric and energetic sativa for wake-and-bake, and one strong-ass indica to knock me out before sleep.
