When do you start counting the flowering cycle?

Just dont tell ppl on the trichome sticky that they have cannabinoid receptors, or they'll delete your comments except the ones they decide to argue with..... very scientific of them.

HES A WITCH!! BURN HIM!! Lol

Some people count the flowering time starting from switching to 12/12
but most plants go over the time by a week or 2 so instead of 9 weeks its more like 10 or 11 weeks, surely that's the same as starting counting when you see the first flower normally a week or 2 after switching to 12/12. Its 6 of 1 or half a dozen of the other imo

My 8 week strains are ready 8 weeks after I flip to 12/12.

I don't start counting bloom days until 7-14 days after the flip. Personal preference on the grower & the strain imo. For someone who is a novice, and a 9wk strain can easily take 10-11wks due to minor stresses or imperfect environment, thus.. I feel waiting until you see pistil balls is a good thing for newbies >> Helps you avoid chopping early, if you make the mistake of.. 48...49...day 50! CHOP.!!.

Whats the best way to know how good something is? By smoking it!! Duh. I have a microscope but my cannabinoid receptorss are far more accurate at determining if I'm smoking quality bud or not

I used to just wait till it had vegged for at least 4-5 weeks before any kind of 12/12 was initiated. That being said when i spend coin nowadays i get auto's which are ok i guess but i am a indica slut and normally dont bother with auto's, the rule of thumb i was taught as a youngin was to watch the nodes after a few weeks of veg and they will eventually start to alternate as oppossed to being reg nodes that are equal while its veggin, then i start 12/12 but i dont count my flowering cycle until i see flowers being produced no matter how smallish they be, that's the start of week one in my 12/12 tent.

I have also went by counting 24 hours after my first day of 12/12 as day 1. I have also read in a article not on a forum that you should start counting 24 to 48 hours after flip to 12/12 because this gives the plants adequate time to transition to flowering stage but the counting starting at the 12/12 flip I would say is pretty accurate the only way I could see it not being accurate is if you didn't veg your plants to maturity or your plants were stressed or you don't have optimal grow conditions in your grow room. Also I might add that flushing plants also helps to mature the plants also because you basically flushing all nutrients out of the soil and the plants will use up all the stored nutrients in them and it makes the plant think it is coming to the end of its life cycle with all the damn water and flushing but I must say plants have to be atleast somewhat close to maturity.

And here's the official answer straight from from the breeder's (TGA Genetics) mouth:

so sub says day 1 of 12/12 is day 1 off flower?

if thats what your saying and this is what breeders are using i would go with that as a guide as there breeding the strains to finish 8 weeks or so from there flip.....

any other breeders want to chime in? nor cal etc??

lets get a proper answer and put this to bed!!

The "pro breeder" is incorrect You cannot ALWAYS count from flip for one simple reason.Pure sativas take an unpredictable amount of time to trigger. My Hawaiian Snow from Greenhouse Seeds takes between four and six months under 12/12 to show a single flower, then 14 more to finish. The Nevilles Haze is almost as bad, so in this case there is no arguing that the counting starts when you first see flowers.Indicas and Indica/Sativa Hybrids are a whole different ball game depending on how much sativa is in the hybrid some are.triggering in days, as little as three. So quick in fact, the count becomes a moot point, as environmental variations can make your flower time plus or minus that many days. Some hybrids take weeks. So Subcool was incorrect, though he seemed absolutely sure. He's not the only pro breeder out here with an opinion and decades under the belt. So nubies, always look at the form of the bud, the ratio of white to red hairs, and not only the colour of the trichomes, but, also look at an entire section of them and watch them all start bending under the weight of the bulbous heads when they are mature.A lot needs to happen for a great end product, not only Cannabinoid development, but Turpine development as well for fragrance and flavour, a certain amount of fermentation actually takes place and tiny amounts of alcohol are even made. These things happen in the last week or so,one eventually learns by fragrance alone when a flower cluster is ready when well familiarized with a particular strain. I might add that not every cluster rippens at the same time, and buds can be harvested weeks apart off the same plant, thus increasing overall crop value, and, yield. I am in the commercial tree fruit industry and have observed this same ripeness phenomenon across the board. Every new crop is unique and variations are common place with average windows of give or take 1.5 weeks on both sides, so, three weeks (Average)total, in Cannabis, Cherries, Plums, Apples ect. because of this, there can be no REAL counting, only observational guesses with honed in accuracy caused by hands on experience. The most obvious observation for counting flowering is the appearance of flowers.Remember this is Science. It's ALL about observation, and applied averages.

A week or two after flip, 7-14days, when yo first see flowers,.........doesn't sound too scientific to me. If you count days after the flip it should be the same every time, and may or may not be as advertised.

When you have a mature or sexually mature female plant, you count the day you throw her into 12/12. The plant needs some time to prep itself for flowering. Most of my flowers are just about ripe during the advertised flowering time. Harvest potency is up to you. If you look real good, you can already see growth changes within the first week of 12/12 unless the plant is too young or too shifted in genetics. There are many many things that can preven, abort, lengthen, and or stunt flowering time not to mention seeds are never 100% alike. You could have a 70 day flower time with one seed and a 80 day flower time with another seed from the same mother.

Wellll I originally liked to believe to count from 12/12 but for the 8 weeks strains I'm growing I'm on week 8 today , and it looks like I got Atleast 2 weeks left ..... And funnily enough it took aprox 2 weeks for sex and flower to show .... But I've seen letters from a seed bank saying it's from 12/12 , soooo my conclusion ....... Ignore it alll , you'll be able to tell when she's "in the zone"

So the breeder was right! About 8 weeks
