When do you start counting the flowering cycle?

I count from when I flip 12/12 if it says 8 weeks I'll check it in eight weeks with a jelwers lope if ready fine down it comes if not I wait to its 50% milky 50% Amber .
WTF?
You posted an answer to a 4 year old thread?

50/50? Kinda overkill ain't it? You NEED to know that while the buds are drying. Their (trichomes) still aging/converting...

Take a look here for a most excellent post with perfect pics of "when" to harvest.

As always - Thanks to Riddle for the most excellent post on "when" to harvest!

For the record. I don't count at all. I just watch my plants and the trich's when the time nears.
IF, I were to "count". I would start after the stretch is over and the budding actually begins......Counting days does NOT, in ANY way tell you "when" to harvest!

This months skunk mag has an article by the rev. If I read it right he starts his flower in this fasion. His veg room runs 19/5. He triggers them with 18/6. For two weeks he blasts them with HID as T5's are weak sauce. He then bumps it into flower @11.5/12.5. I believe the article advocated a 20% bump with this regiment. Just changed the timer on the Harvest master so the ship is taking off..
The "REV" is a moron! So is his soil mix and his layering,,,,,,same for Sub Tool!

I have read that seed companies will tend to rate the flowering time of a seed when conditions are perfect. So an 8 week strain will often take 9-10 weeks. But I have not found anything conclusive that explains when to start counting the weeks.

Is it when you switch to 12/12 or once they start to show flowers?

By showing flowers in this context, I am not talking about the pre-flowers you see when a vegging plant has matured. but rather ... the first sign of flowers 2-3 weeks after starting a 12/12 cycle.

Thanks in advance,

--Karm
2-3 weeks? My plant showed pistils and top flowers in 2-3 days after 12/12.

About 7-10 days pistols should definitely be showing. If not you probably have temp issues or PH issues.

I count from first day of 12/12 . This Atomic bomb is 30 days In and took approximately 2 weeks to start flowering.
There should be consistency amongst growers in this matter. Basing flower times on when flower clusters start forming isn't .

The capitate-stalked glandular trichome changes color as it matures. Newly formed and immature glands are clear, glands reaching optimum THC production are cloudy or milky and amber trichomes have already passed their peak. By looking at the trichomes you can also determine the best time to harvest your plants. When most trichomes have gone cloudy and a few amber ones have appeared, the plant is at its peak.

CANNABINOL (CBN)

Cannabinol is the primary degradation product of THC and increases in concentration with plant age. The concentration of this product in the bud is heavily dependent on the time of harvest. Harvesting the bud at a late stage also means that the concentration of CBN in relation to THC will be higher when compared to the peak of THC production.

CBN is only mildly psychoactive and can cause "fuzzy head", drowsiness, disorientation and sleepiness in the smoker, properties that can be considered unpleasant in nature compared to the clear high of the THC.

In other words ....... watch your trichomes ... they will tell you when to harvest.
I just came across this thread and it amazes me how far we have come on the view and knowledge of CBD in just 5 years!!! Awesome

So was thereally ever a unanimous decision on Wether we count from day of 12/12 switch or from first site of a pistol?

Or is everyone torn down the middle like everything else!

And here's the official answer straight from from the breeder's (TGA Genetics) mouth:
I definitely trust what Subcool says, but every time this noob asks this question I get a different answer. I was seeing conflicting info on how to count and not sure on my first grow when to harvest, so I sent an email to Seedsman and they told me to count from when I first saw flowers! :-? Since I couldn't find a definitive answer, I decided to split the difference and stagger my harvest - I'll see which batch I like best. But I guess a main takeaway is not to rely too much on the calendar, and more on your eyes and knowledge of your environment, etc.

I used to just wait till it had vegged for at least 4-5 weeks before any kind of 12/12 was initiated. That being said when i spend coin nowadays i get auto's which are ok i guess but i am a indica slut and normally dont bother with auto's, the rule of thumb i was taught as a youngin was to watch the nodes after a few weeks of veg and they will eventually start to alternate as oppossed to being reg nodes that are equal while its veggin, then i start 12/12 but i dont count my flowering cycle until i see flowers being produced no matter how smallish they be, that's the start of week one in my 12/12 tent.
The word you want is " decussate " which means : even branching.

I know right? I count from the day I switch from full sun, to less than 12 hours...it's too iffy, not all plants are the same...I go by the colour of the pistils, and the cloudiness of the trichome heads...it's relative.

I explain it as it has a fast flowering gene..similar to ruderalis but still is triggered by the photoperiod..It may be a pheno to keep and breed with for that specific trait.
LOL, nice job reviving a 8-year old post. I never did keep that cut, as the 55-day J1 cut I had was better.
