Which is best red single color actually ?

Hi folks ,

In order to complete my kit :

3 vero2 4000k drive at 2.1A and 4 cxb3590 CD 3500K drive at 1.4A ,
i'm searching for best red single color.

So i will buy rapidled heatsink enclosure

http://www.rapidled.com/productimage.php?product_id=573&current_image=3 and put 2 cxb on it .

Can put almost 65W more on each fixture mounted with red.

I think i'm gonna mix and put some 660nm and 630-645nm.

So here it is , i would like to have your opinion on which one take :

Cree XPE or XTE or XQE , Osram SSL , Dragon rebel , Led engine LZ4 .????

For a single red I'd say something around 640 nm. That would give fairly even amounts of 624 and 660 nm, the two most active regions. Hard to find high power ones though. Maybe get some of these cheap Chinese Epistars with a broad spectrum of red. Probably wouldn't last that long but at that price they're disposable.

1. find out what bins are available to you
2. look at the data sheets and figure out the radiant output at your current for a given bin/model
3. do the math on radiant output per dollar
4. ???
4. profit

very interesting....i have nearly exact same setup 4 x vero 29@ 2.1 and 4x cxb 3590 cd 3500 72v @ .7mA. I havent added a red but i did add a t5 uvb and 730 nm lights out mini-panel

your cobs have plenty of red in the 600 - 630 range, i'd enhance with just deep reds 660nm. been using cree photo reds

its a multichip ... a bunch of 3watt chips in an array. I'd run away, quality of the diodes in the 3 watt muti chips historically has a bad rep.

I purchased some (cyan, green, red, etc) LEDs, but the color output is not what I expected. What is going on?

When LEDs are manufactured they are broadly grouped into color categories such as red, red-orange, green, cyan etc.
These groupings can actually encompass quite a wide color range.

For example, cyan LEDs can range from 490nm to 520nm making the light output from cyan LEDs with a 520nm rating very 'greenish'.
Similarly, red LEDs can range from 645nm to 620nm, making some red LEDs appear very 'orangey'.



So when you order cyan or red or some other color LEDs, the actual color output of the LED may not be exactly what you would expect.
This is the price one pays for the ability to purchase high power LEDs in small quantities.

The only way that you can ensure that you get an LED that is close to the color that you need is to purchase 'binned' LEDs.
Binned LEDs are LEDs that have been tested and sorted into color (and other) ranges that have a much tighter tolerance.

Specifying an LED bin number requires that LEDs (or premounted LEDs) be purchased in 1,000 piece increments (A full reel).
If you order less than 1,000 LEDs, we will only supply un-binned LEDs selected from general inventory.
If you order LEDs in 1,000 piece increments, we will ship full reels of LEDs or produce LED assemblies from the same bin.

If you need a specific bin number, you must contact us before you order for availability.

...on oslons seems to me its the same old story...for top bins... only buying full reels of led...
...seems to me the same for top bins on cree photoreds... or other brands...

...no doubt... ou yeahhh...


...pd... i know we got some good bins on small numbers on some sites too...maybe not the top bins... but near bins too...

I use Far Red, Deep Red and Infrared Red, all available here ->http://shop.stevesleds.com/SemiLeds-Deep-Red-3W-Newest-Version-8794102499.htm. I use the Deep red and IR all day and the Far red for lights out 15minutes. peace. I also use Royal Blue for vegging and I get great results. I shut down the COB after 12 hours and let the Royal Blue go all night long, like a night light and the plants respond beautifully to the timing. peace

that's an innovative way to economize for vegging. Whats your COB to royal blue ratio ? Have you noticed any differences in how the plants grow with the Royal Blue at night?

I use 12-3W epistar royal blue leds with 4 cxb3590 3500K/5000K @ 350 mA, 15W/COB. The royal Blue has some serious impact overnight. it is 36W of royal blue light compared to 200W of COB lights 3500K/5000K. peace.

...maybe a crazy way to economize in vegetative...i hear ...interrupt the night time ....with white light for 10-15 minutes... to mantain the vegetative stage...

...if works on 12/12 or other cycles minor than 18/6....we can economize hours of lights... but interrupt the night time ... extress the plant?...
...on large runs maybe the plants adapts and cant mantain the vegetative stage..only with night interruption for 10-15min?....

...any bro tried this?...maybe captain?....

Regarding reds -- I've been wanting to try 4000K or 5000K white cob + 660nm reds for awhile. I have some 4000K cobs (and 4000K samsung hard strips) and I just ordered some osram ssl 150 660nm (2t bin) from my favorite vendor in China (Merry Wu). It is the low end BIN, but they are only $.71 each. I'm getting some 20mm PCB stars to use with my hard strips in a tote setup, but she's also making me a 30-led "COB" style light with all 660s using one of these PCBs:
